Abstract: Devices, methods, and systems capable of an enabling transmission and receipt of secure and non-secure data are discussed in this document. According to some embodiments, a network apparatus can transmit ciphered and unciphered data. The network apparatus transmits a first signal indicating a cipher to be used and transmits a second signal indicating that non-secure data is to be transmitted and received unciphered. The network apparatus can cipher secure data and transmits ciphered-secure data and unciphered-non-secure data. A wireless terminal can receive the first and second signals, the ciphered secure data, and the unciphered non-secure data. The wireless terminal can deciphers the received secure data and does not decipher the received non-secure data. System embodiments can include both network-side and network terminal components. • Patent number: 9078118
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include wireless communication systems having one or more network components that can communicate with at least one mobile station in an interference environment. A transmitter can transmit data indicating a set of communication modes in which a mobile station is capable of operating and for at least one mode of communication in the set an indication of interference rejection capability. The indicating data can be received by a receiver. A resource allocator can allocate system resources based on the indicating data for use during a connection between network components (e.g., a network apparatus and a mobile station). Allocation of system resources can fully or partially depend on a connection's communication mode, an indication of interference rejection capability of a mobile station for the mode of communication of the connection, and/or an interference environment expected during the connection. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed to provide for a multi-SIM wireless user equipment configured for block-level, or slot-level tune-away operations enabling simultaneous communication with a plurality of channels. The first and second channels may correspond to different RANs, each of which the user equipment may subscribe to as corresponding to information in a plurality of SIMs at the user equipment. In other examples, the first and second channels may correspond to different cells within a single RAN. In either case, the tune-away operations disclosed provide for reduced data loss at the first channel and in some examples improved communication performance at the second channel. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

  • Patent number: 8989697
Abstract: An eCall is an emergency call that may (i) be initiated automatically by a wireless terminal due to a trigger event (e.g., a vehicle involved in an accident) or manually by a user and (ii) include additional data sent automatically by the terminal to a recipient entity, e.g., a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). Depending on the implementation, Emergency setup signaling (e.g., an Emergency SETUP message) or a location updating message is used to give high priority to registering an eCall-only mode In-Vehicle System (IVS) on a mobile network. The IVS can get higher priority from the mobile network right after an eCall emergency is triggered at the IVS. When requesting a connection to the mobile network, the WS can use one or more fields of the location updating message in order to register on the network with a higher priority.
