  • Publication number: 20180145839
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Data for a broadcast or multicast service may be sent over a control channel. A network device may broadcast a message to indicate a plurality of enhanced multimedia broadcast multicast service (eMBMS) services offered by the network. The mobile device may transmit an indication to the network device identifying an eMBMS service of interest. The network device may transmit a configuration message before broadcasting or multicasting data of the eMBMS service of interest. The configuration message may notify the mobile device of a control channel on which to receive the data related to the eMBMS service. The network device may then broadcast or multicast the eMBMS service data on the control channel. The data may be segmented at a particular protocol layer and mapped to several transmission time intervals within each repetition of the control channel.

  • Publication number: 20180132293
Abstract: One feature pertains to a method that includes establishing a radio communication connection with a first radio access node (RAN) that uses control plane signaling connections to carry user plane data. The method also includes determining that the wireless communication device is experiencing radio link failure (RLF) with the first RAN and that the radio communication connection should be reestablished with a second RAN. A reestablishment request message is transmitted to the second RAN that includes parameters that enable a core network node communicatively coupled to the second RAN to authenticate the wireless communication device and allow or reject reestablishment of the radio communication connection. The parameters include at least a message authentication code (MAC) based in part on one or more bits of a non-access stratum (NAS) COUNT value maintained at the wireless communication device.

  • Publication number: 20180103427
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to adjusting how certain types of devices wake up and/or stay awake for broadcast service. A method for wireless communications is provided that may be performed by a user equipment (UE). The method includes receiving a power savings configuration indicating sleep periods during which the UE is scheduled to be unreachable. The method includes determining at least one time, during at least a portion of one of the indicated sleep periods, for the UE to be awake in order to at least one of: receive or discover Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (MBMS) user services.

  • Publication number: 20170215116
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus to prevent poor quality handoff decisions in mobile networks. The methods and apparatus effectuate a determination whether a predetermined condition concerning a cell has occurred as detected in the mobile device, such as unsuccessful handoff or a signal to noise ratio being less than a certain amount. Based on such determinations, poor quality handoff decisions can be realized by modifying or configuring the measurement report message to be sent to the serving network where the measurement report is configured to omit information concerning those cells not meeting the predetermined condition. Accordingly, these cells will not be considered in handoff decisions, thus increasing the quality of such decisions.

  • Publication number: 20170181069
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for selecting a cell having a particular type of service, such as packet switched (PS) service. The methods and apparatus effect determination within a mobile device of signal strength for at least one cell and whether the at least one cell meets signal strength and path loss criteria based on the determined signal strength. A determination is then made whether the at least one cell supports PS for a PS only device, and a selection to receive service from or camp on the cell is then made when the at least one cell has been determined to support PS. By effecting such selection in PS only devices such as Class C devices, the mobile devices will have PS service for which they are designed and avoids cells having only circuit switched service that would provide no service for the PS only device.

  • Publication number: 20170180995
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive a paging message that includes a secured UE identifier calculated based on a security configuration negotiated between the UE and a trusted source, e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) of the core network. The UE may determine whether the paging message is received from the trusted source or an untrusted source based on the secured UE identifier. The UE may transmit a connection request message based on the determination that the paging message is received from a trusted source.

  • Patent number: 9504046
Abstract: A cellular communications system in which transmission of control signals for plural different remote stations is so displaced in time that the transmission of control signals for one remote station does not interfere with the transmission of control signals for another remote station, the displacement being sufficient to prevent contemporaneous reception of control signals by the remote station intended for the other remote station.

  • Publication number: 20160338032
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer-readable medium for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus retrieves a particular number corresponding to a UE. To retrieve the particular number, the apparatus may receive the particular number through a channel request from the UE. Alternately, the apparatus may assign the particular number to the UE in order to retrieve the particular number. The apparatus determines a resource block within a coverage class based on the particular number. To determine the resource block, the apparatus maps the particular number to a resource block number within the coverage class using a hash function. The resource block number identifies the resource block. The apparatus transmits a device-specific control message to the UE using the determined resource block.

  • Patent number: 9467975
Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for enabling improved performance on a single-transmit multi-SIM wireless communication device. The wireless communication device may detect a voice communication on a modem stack associated with the first SIM and a data communication on a modem stack associated with the second SIM. The wireless communication device may identify a data rate used by the voice codec to encode uplink traffic channel (TCH) bursts in the voice communication, and determine whether the identified data rate used by the voice codec permits TCH burst cancellation. If it is determined that the identified data rate used by the voice codec permits TCH burst cancellation, the wireless communication device may downgrade a portion of the uplink TCH bursts scheduled on the modem stack associated with the first SIM.

  • Patent number: 9445321
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided in which a user equipment performs an inter-radio access technology (RAT) mobility procedure from a first network to a second network while idle mode signaling reduction (ISR) is active, locally deactivates ISR in connection with completion of the inter-RAT mobility procedure, and initiates a location management procedure in the second network. Depending on the respective type of the first and second network, and the connection state of the UE with respect to the first network, the mobility procedure may be performed in response to a mobility command received from the first network, or in response to a mobility condition of the first network as detected by the UE.
