  • Publication number: 20210243775
Abstract: An architecture, for a cellular communications system, is described herein in which a “bearer-less” model is used for both the radio interface and the network core. Instead of using an individual Layer 2 bearer for each Quality of Service (QoS) class, in the architecture described herein, a common Layer 2 connection (e.g., a Layer 2 “fat pipe”) may be used to handle traffic flows between a User Equipment (UE) device and an external Packet Data Network (PDN). Additionally, a bearer-less architecture may be used in the radio interface (i.e., between User Equipment (UE) and the eNB).

  • Patent number: 10972235
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for offloading traffic flows without service disruption are disclosed herein. User equipment (UE) is configured to receive an indication that a current packet data network (PDN) connection can be optimized. The current PDN connection is established over a first PDN gateway (PGW). The UE requests connection over a new PDN connection to a same type of service as the current PDN connection without releasing the connection over the first PGW. The UE routes new traffic flows over a second PGW corresponding to the new PDN connection and routes old traffic flows over the first PGW.

  • Patent number: 10951480
Abstract: Technology for a virtualized network function manager (VNFM) in a mixed wireless network operable to facilitate instantiation of a virtualized network function (VNF) instance is disclosed. The VNFM can receive a request to instantiate a new VNF instance from a network manager (NM) via a network function virtualization (NFV) orchestrator (NFVO), the request including VNF instantiation information. The VNFM can send a request to a virtualized infrastructure manager (VIM) for allocating virtual resources for the new VNF instance based on the VNF instantiation information. The VNFM can receive an acknowledgement from the VIM after successful allocation of the virtualized resources for the new VNF instance. The VNFM can instantiate the new VNF instance and send an acknowledgement of the new VNF instance to the NFVO, wherein the new VNF instance is operable to ease congestion at an overloaded non-virtualized network element in the mixed wireless network.

  • Patent number: 10932158
Abstract: Some demonstrative embodiments include devices, systems and methods of offloading traffic of a Secondary Cell Group (SCG). For example, some embodiments may include identifying a SCG bearer that is offloadable to the Internet via a Network Address Translation (NAT) gateway, based on offloading information received from a Master Evolved Node B (eNB) (MeNB); and offloading uplink Internet Protocol (IP) packets of the SCG bearer to the Internet via the NAT gateway, if the SCG bearer is indicated to be offloadable.

  • Publication number: 20210050907
Abstract: A relay device assists in enabling lawful intercept (LI) by reporting, to a LI entity associated with the cellular network, authenticated identities of remote UEs (such as remote UEs connected via proximity services) and identification information that may allow the LI entity to monitor traffic (and/or control statistics related to the traffic) associated with the remote UEs. The authentication of the remote UEs may be performed using a technique that does not require involvement of the cellular network.

  • Publication number: 20210014828
Abstract: Wireless communication devices may directly communicate within groups of wireless communication devices using Layer-2 communications to implement “push-to-talk” type applications. In one implementation, a method may include generating a floor request signaling message to take control of a communication channel for a group. After transmitting data relating to the communications, a floor release signaling message may be generated and transmitted a number of times.

  • Patent number: 10848957
Abstract: This document discusses, among other things, a Cellular Internet-of-Things (CIoT) network architecture to enable communication between an apparatus of a CIoT User Equipment (UE) and a network through a CIoT enhanced Node B (eNB) according to a lightweight Non-Access Stratum (NAS) protocol. An apparatus of a CIoT eNB can process data for communication between the CIoT UE and the network. The lightweight NAS protocol supports a reduced set of NAS messages for communication between, for example, the CIoT UE and the CIoT eNB, such as using a modified NAS message, or one or more new messages.

  • Patent number: 10809999
Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems for updating firmware of a CIoT device. The CIoT device activates, based on one or more activation commands received by the first receiver and the second receiver. The CIoT device connects by the second receiver and the second transmitter, to a device. The CIoT device receives, by the second receiver, from the device, a firmware upgrade file. A CIoT device deactivates the second receiver.

  • Publication number: 20200280835
Abstract: The techniques introduced here provide for network assisted device-to-device communication for peer-to-peer applications. The techniques include registering a user's peer-to-peer application identifier with a peer-to-peer application server, registering a peer-to-peer application with a device-to-device server, sending a peer-to-peer service request to the peer-to-peer application server, and receiving network assistance in discovering a peer with the desired P2P content/service and establishing a device-to-device communication arrangement for exchange of peer-to-peer services.

  • Publication number: 20200267607
Abstract: Systems and methods of providing 5G access for a UE are generally described. The UE is simultaneously connected via dual radio operation to a legacy and 5G access system. The UE mobility management states for the access systems are independent of each other. The EPC and 5G CN share an HSS and may share a IP anchor. When handover occurs between access systems, the IP address is retained and the IP anchor used when the UE transmits an Attach Request having a Handover Attach Request Type and otherwise a new IP address is provided and the HSS but not the IP anchor is common between the access systems. The 5G eNB to which the UE is connected is standalone and connected to the 5G CN or dual mode and connected with an EPC via an LTE anchor in addition to the 5G CN.

  • Patent number: 10743288
Abstract: Embodiments use the principles of self-organizing networks to allocate resources to allow spectrum owners to share spectrum with wireless carriers according to defined license conditions. A spectrum licensee holds the licensing conditions of the spectrum licensed by the spectrum owners. This licensed spectrum is referred to as secondary spectrum. A self-organizing network server requests access to secondary spectrum. The spectrum licensee grants access to the secondary spectrum along with the licensing conditions for access. The self-organizing network server monitors the conditions associated with the license and/or delegates the responsibility for monitoring conditions associated with the license to others. When the license conditions are met, enhanced Node B systems may begin using the secondary spectrum according to the license conditions. When the license conditions are no longer met, enhanced Node B systems discontinue use of the secondary spectrum.
