  • Publication number: 20220394550
Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein relate to reducing RRC signalling messages. Techniques can be employed to reduce the number of Random Access Channel (RACH) attempts to obtain NotBroadcasted (e.g., On Demand System Information(s) (SIs)) by a UE in response to a paging message indicating SI modification. The UE may monitor the Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) for a given duration in attempt to decode the On Demand SI(s) without initiating a RACH procedure. If the UE fails to decode the On Demand SI(s) within the given duration, the UE may initiate a RACH procedure to obtain the On Demand SI(s).

  • Publication number: 20220386222
Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for a wireless device to autonomously perform certain cell measurements in a wireless communication system. A wireless device may establish a wireless link with a cellular base station. The wireless link may be established according to a first radio access technology. The wireless device may determine whether at least one cell that operates according to a second radio access technology is available at the current location of the wireless device based on information stored by the wireless device. If at least one cell that operates according to the second radio access technology is available, the wireless device may perform one or more cell measurements on a cell that operates according to the second radio access technology.

  • Publication number: 20220352627
Abstract: An electronic device having multiple antenna groups for data communication may determine a temperature of a first antenna group and determine a power gain of a second antenna group. The electronic device may communicate using the second antenna group in response to determining that the temperature of the first antenna group exceeds a temperature threshold and the power gain of the second antenna group exceeds a gain threshold. In some embodiments, the electronic device may receive communication link preferences, determine an antenna group that is disposed outside of thermal hotspots of the electronic device, and determine a beam that enables the communication link preferences via the antenna group. The electronic device may then transmit or receive data via the antenna group by forming the beam.

  • Patent number: 11490306
Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments for reducing likelihood of selecting a cell identified by a Radio Access Network (RAN) Notification Area ID (RNA ID) that is different from that identifying a last or current serving cell so as to avoid an RNA update procedure; reducing Random Access Channel (RACH) transmissions for an RNA update procedure and a mobile originated (MO) data transmission in response to a Radio Resource Control (RRC) triggered RNA update procedure; and selecting a band or beam in a multi-band/beam cellular system that improves RACH efficiency.

  • Patent number: 11490447
Abstract: A UE in an RRC inactive state may determine an operational state mismatch between an actual RRC operational state for the UE and a stored RRC operational state for the UE maintained at a network node. To determine the mismatch, while the UE is in the RRC inactive state, the UE may monitor at least one of paging messages, serving cell power levels, or neighbor cell power levels. When an operational state mismatch is detected, the UE may initiate a state correction procedure rather than an RRC resume procedure.

  • Publication number: 20220337970
Abstract: A device and method for a user equipment (UE) to implement power savings mechanisms when operating within a significant location. The UE identifies that the UE is at a significant location. The significant location is a location relative to a currently camped cell of a network. At a first time and at the significant location, the UE performs a type of operation related to the network connection. The UE stores information corresponding to the performance of the type of operation at the first time in a profile associated with the significant location. At a second time and at the significant location, the UE performs the type of operation related to the network connection. The performance of the type of operation at the second time is modified based on the information stored in the profile associated with the significant location.

  • Patent number: 11477711
Abstract: The exemplary embodiments relate to inter-radio access technology (iRAT) signaling reduction for a user equipment (UE). The UE may identify an inter-radio access technology (iRAT) event and determine that a predetermined condition is satisfied. The predetermined condition may be based on identifying a predetermined number of iRAT events within a predetermined time window. The UE may then implement a mechanism for iRAT signaling reduction based on the predetermined condition.

  • Publication number: 20220312417
Abstract: Systems and methods provide secondary cell group (SCG) activation and deactivation. A user equipment (UE) in a wireless network may determine bandwidth part (BWP) configurations for a carrier of a primary secondary cell (PSCell) of an SCG for dual connectivity (DC). The UE may move between an SCG activation state and an SCG deactivation state based on the BWP configurations. SCG deactivation modeling may be based on a separate BWP configuration or may be modeled via a separate configuration in radio resource control (RRC) that is applicable to the BWPs in a serving cell.

  • Publication number: 20220312322
Abstract: Methods related to an inactive state of a user equipment (UE). In one example, when an amount of data in an uplink buffer is less than a threshold, the data is sent to the network while remaining in the inactive state. In another example, when reselecting to a different cell, the UE attempts to reselect to the different cell and remain in the inactive state. When transitioning to a connected state at the reselected cell, the UE sends a resume request including an identification of the first cell. In another example, when a high priority or a background PLMN search is performed in the inactive state, the results are cached and implemented the earlier of when a timer expires or the UE enters an idle state. In another example, a cell reselection criteria is altered in the inactive state to make it less likely that a cell reselection will occur.

Abstract: Systems and methods performed by user equipment (UE) for communicating over a wireless communication network include receiving data representing one or more communication quality metrics for communication on a New Radio (NR) communication link of the wireless communication network. The method includes determining, based on the data representing the one or more communication quality metrics, a data throughput for the NR communication link of the wireless communication network. The method includes estimating a theoretical throughput for using a Long Term Evolution (LTE) communications link of the wireless network. The method includes comparing the data throughput using the NR communication link to the theoretical throughput for using the LTE communication link. • Patent number: 11432313
Abstract: A system and method for operation of a user equipment (UE) to determine a cellular network bottleneck in a downlink channel, and an apparatus for use in a UE for determining the same. A UE may determine a burst of network traffic from network traffic received from the cellular network during a series of transmission time intervals. The UE may analyze resource allocations to the UE during the burst to determine an extent to which the cellular network is busy. The UE may determine that the cellular network is experiencing a bottleneck based at least in part on the analysis of the resource allocations to the UE in the burst.

  • Publication number: 20220240079
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) includes first and second subscriber identity modules (SIMs), possibly subscribed to different carriers. When the first SIM is in a connected state and the second SIM is in an idle state, the UE may need to periodically tune away a radio from a first frequency used for communication under the first SIM to a second frequency used for idle mode activity under the second SIM. The UE may provide to the network of the first SIM the second SIMs traffic activity pattern and/or serving frequency so that the network may provide coordinated configuration and/or scheduling for the UE device, e.g., in order to make the action of tuning away (and tuning back) the radio more efficient and/or to decrease the network impact of such radio tune aways (e.g., to decrease wasted uplink scheduling and wasted downlink transmissions for the first SIM).

  • Patent number: 11388720
Abstract: Capability exchange enhancements include filtering and/or indexing. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) determines UE capabilities to be reported to a network based on one or more of: one or more enquiries from the network, received system information, a home operator policy, configuration associated with public land mobile network (PLMN) information of one or more networks, a user preference, or a service type. In other aspects, a UE may report a subset of UE capabilities for features used for the connection establishment. Following connection establishment, the UE may use an identifier to communicate a more complete set of modes of operation that the UE is currently capable of performing. Base stations of the network may share the reported subset so that the UE may avoid transmitting the subset to a target base station.
