  • Patent number: 7512960
Abstract: A hub-mounted optical disk to eliminate the need for a separate stack ring while decreasing the overall height, a method of fabricating the optical disk, and an injection molding die for manufacturing an optical disk substrate. The hub-mounted optical disk includes a substrate having a hollow and an indented portion engraved to a predetermined depth on the inside of a non-recording surface where no information is recorded; and a hub including a plate that has a fitting hole therein and is engaged into the hollow and the indented portion and a central ring that is inserted into the fitting hole. The method of fabricating the hub-mounted optical disk includes mounting the hub onto a magnetic chuck, applying an ultra-violet (UV) hardening resin on the indented portion of the substrate, operating the magnetic chuck so that the plate is in contact with the indented portion, and curing the UV hardening resin by irradiating it with UV light.

  • Patent number: 7442424
Abstract: A super-resolution information storage medium having recording marks or pits that are smaller than the resolution limit of a beam incident from an information recording and/or reproducing apparatus, and the information recording and/or reproducing apparatus. The information storage medium includes a substrate and at least one super-resolution reproduction layer containing a super-resolution material and a high melting point material with a melting point higher than that of the super-resolution material formed on the substrate. The high melting point material suppresses movement of the super-resolution material in a melted phase so as to prevent signal degradation caused by repeated reproduction.

  • Patent number: 7372801
Abstract: A reproduction-only optical disc has a lead-in area, a user data area, and a lead-out area. Disc related information recorded on at least one of the lead-in area and the lead-out area is recorded by high frequency groove wobbles, and data of the user data area is recorded by pits. Since the high-density reproduction-only optical disc uses the same channels for reproduction signals as a high-density recordable optical disc, the two types of discs are consistent with each other and are compatible with the same disc drives.

  • Patent number: 7362693
Abstract: An optical data storage system writes or reads information with respect to an optical storage medium using an optical pickup including a solid immersion optical system or a solid immersion lens for generating a near-field and emitting a light beam. The optical storage medium includes a recording layer which is formed on a surface of an optical transmissive layer opposite to another surface of the optical transmissive layer which opposes the solid immersion optical system or solid immersion lens. The thickness of the optical transmissive layer is larger than one wavelength of the light beam. The interval between the surfaces of the solid immersion lens or solid immersion optical system and the optical transmissive layer is smaller than one wavelength of the light beam. Thus, the light beam reflected from the inside of an air gap and the inside of the optical storage medium between the air gap and the recording layer does not function as noise with respect to the light reflected from the recording layer.

  • Patent number: 7147893
Abstract: A disc is produced using a method of and an apparatus for forming a transparent layer on a disc substrate. The method for forming the transparent layer on the disc substrate includes covering an axial hole formed at a center of the disc substrate with a cover element by inserting a protrusion of the cover element in the axial hole of the disc substrate so that a resin does not leak through the axial hole, dispensing the resin toward the center of the disc substrate from an upper side of the disc substrate, and removing the cover element. A more uniform transparent layer can be obtained throughout the disc substrate.

  • Patent number: 7041333
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an optical disc includes easily removing a bump formed on a circumference of the optical disc during forming a transparent layer by using a spin-coating method to form the optical disk having a high-density recording capacity. The method includes preparing a substrate having a diameter larger than that of a desired disc, applying an ultraviolet hardening resin to the substrate and forming a transparent layer having a predetermined thickness by a spin-coating method, illuminating an ultraviolet ray on the transparent layer and a bump formed on a circumference of the transparent layer to be hardened, and cutting out the bump by using a puncher. According to the method, the bump which inevitably occurs when the transparent layer is formed, can be easily cut out by a puncher.
