Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for generating Reference Signals utilized in downlink tracking of an unlicensed band. A method and apparatus may determine whether carriers of an unlicensed band secondary component carrier are available for usage to provide a signal(s), enabling timing and frequency tracking of downlink carriers responsive to discontinuous transmission via a medium(s) of the unlicensed band utilized to provide content to devices. The method and apparatus may also select the signal based on a band of the carriers and a detection indicating whether communication terminals of a coexisting system are using a carrier of the band. The method and apparatus may provide the signal to a device(s) via a carrier responsive to determining that the carrier is available or via an occupied carrier utilized by the coexisting system enabling the device to continue tracking of timing and frequency information of the downlink carriers.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide methods, devices and computer programs arranged to control access to a Secondary Cell Carrier (SCC) by a user terminal. The user terminal having a first functional state in which the user terminal is arranged to monitor for a broadcast channel associated with the SCC, and a second functional state, different to said first functional state. One embodiment comprises an apparatus comprising a processing system arranged to cause the apparatus to: receive data indicative of a plurality of operational modes assigned to the SCC; and transmit a signalling message comprising data indicative of said plurality of operational modes for receipt by the user terminal, whereby to configure the user terminal into the first functional state, wherein the user terminal is arranged to selectively request access to resources of the SCC on the basis of a comparison between data contained in said signalling message and data contained in a transmission received on the broadcast channel.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided facilitating flexible time sharing among systems. A method and apparatus may generate a secondary component carrier transmission plan including planned on and off durations. The planned on durations correspond to a time period for an apparatus and devices to communicate via an unlicensed band of the secondary component carrier. The planned off durations correspond to a time interval in which the devices may deactivate from the unlicensed band or remain disconnected from the unlicensed band. The method and apparatus may also enable provision of the plan to the devices via a licensed band of a primary component carrier and detecting a medium of the unlicensed band prior to the expiration of the time period to determine whether the medium is available in order to decide whether to turn on transmissions to the unlicensed band after one of the planned off durations.

Abstract: There is provided a mechanism for controlling communications conducted via different frequency bands or communication spectrums. When a communication via a first communication path, for example an unlicensed or white space communication spectrum, is to be established, e.g. for offloading traffic from a second communication path, for example a licensed cellular communication spectrum, a preamble transmission command is generated and transmitted from a communication network control element, such as an eNB, via the second communication path to a communication element, such as a UE. By means of the preamble transmission command, the transmission of a preamble signal by the receiving communication element on the first communication path with predetermined communication resources is triggered.

Abstract: A method for synchronizing channels on unlicensed bands is described. The method includes determining whether a SCC channel has started to be used by a first network. The SCC channel is a CA channel shared with at least one other network. In response to determining that the SCC channel has been started to be used by the first network, the UE determines an off duration describing a period since a previous SCC channel ON period. A given channel ON period is a continuous period of use of the given channel by the first network, The method also includes, in response to determining that the off duration is less than a minimum threshold duration, performing fine synchronization based on CRS tracking on the SCC channel using course synchronization parameters of the previous SCC channel ON period. Apparatus and computer readable media are also described.

A UE may receive from a wireless network an aperiodic measurement request to measure a special measurement object (e.g., a neighbor cell) specified in the aperiodic measurement request, e.g., in an unlicensed band. In response to the aperiodic measurement request, the UE may perform the measurement of the special management object until a further instruction from the wireless network or for a determined period of time. Inter-frequency measurements may be performed during the measurement gap determined from the aperiodic measurement request.

Centralized control of spectrum for coexistence of wireless communication systems in unlicensed bands according to exemplary embodiments of the invention can be performed by an enhanced coexistence manager or a network access node with information obtained from one or more base stations or user equipment.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus and computer program products provide channel state information (CS1) measurement and reporting for a segment carrier in certain situations. An apparatus such as a base station may determine whether CSI is needed for a channel of a segment carrier comprising a segment portion and a contiguous bandwidth extension of a backward compatible carrier utilized by a base station for wireless communications with a mobile terminal. In response to determining that CSI is needed, the apparatus configures the mobile terminal to communicate channel state information from the mobile terminal to the base station. In other embodiments, an apparatus such as a mobile terminal is configured to receive configuration data indicating whether CSI is to be measured by the mobile terminal, and measuring the CSI and communicating the CSI to the base station in response to the configuration data.

Abstract: A first carrier of a carrier aggregation system has a downlink control region DCR which is selectively enabled and disabled. For the case the DCR of the first carrier is disabled, a DCR of a second carrier is used to cross-schedule a user equipment for radio resources on the first carrier. In various embodiments: the DCR of the first carrier lies within an unlicensed radio frequency band; the DCR of the first carrier is disabled by signaling which reduces to zero a number of symbols reserved for the DCR and is enabled by signaling which increases from zero a number of symbols reserved for the DCR; the signaling is downlink and group-based to a plurality of user equipments. The group-based signaling may be a broadcast system information block or a group RNTI, either of which give frequency information of the DCR and an enabled/disabled status indication.

Abstract: Timing control procedure is needed for uplink transmissions in several communication networks. Some networks and bands have physical and regulatory limitations for obtaining timing advance value in conventional manner. One example of these limitations is disabled downlink channel in TV white spaces. The present invention provides an arrangement for obtaining timing advance value in a situation wherein the use of downlink channel is disabled.

A method and apparatus may determine a carrier(s) providing a signal(s) enabling timing and frequency tracking a downlink carrier(s) within a downlink synchronization group to devices responsive to discontinuous transmission via a medium(s) of an unlicensed band on a secondary component carrier. The medium(s) previously utilized to provide content to a device(s). The method and apparatus may also provide an indication of the carrier(s) to the device notifying the device that information of the signal is receivable via the carrier on the unlicensed band. The method and apparatus may also send the signal(s) to the device via the carrier enabling the device to obtain timing and frequency information.

Abstract: The invention allows flexible disabling/enabling of cross-carrier scheduling in carrier-aggregated wireless data transmission. In response to detecting a predetermined disabling indication of cross-carrier scheduling of received carrier aggregated wireless data transmission, the disabling indication targeting subframes allocated to uplink in a first component carrier transmitted from a cross-carrier scheduling cell and to downlink in a second component carrier transmitted from a cross-carrier scheduled cell: a downlink control region in the targeted subframes in the second component carrier is monitored for uplink/downlink grants; and in response to detecting an uplink/downlink grant, the detected uplink/downlink grant is utilized in uplink/downlink scheduling of the targeted subframe in the second component carrier.

An apparatus comprises a processing system and a memory storing a set of program instructions. The processing system is configured to cause the apparatus to receive channel information from a UE reporting the control of an industrial-scientific-medical (ISM) band channel by the UE and cause the apparatus to schedule a communication session with the UE over the channel, with the channel being configured and activated as an ISM secondary component carrier (SCC). Abstract: Methods, apparatus and computer program products are provided for rebalancing the sizes of downlink (DL) association sets for component carriers having different time division duplex subframe configurations. A method is provided that includes determining DL subframes that are included in a DL association set for each of a plurality of component carriers. In an instance in which the number of acknowledgement (ACK)/negative acknowledgement (NACK) bits corresponding to the DL subframes included in the DL association sets for respective component carriers differ by at least a predetermined amount, the method modifies the number of ACK/NACK bits corresponding to the DL subframes that are included in the DL association sets for each of the respective component carriers. The method may also cause transmission of the ACK/NACK bits in accordance with the DL association sets, as modified, via the respective component carriers. Abstract: A method is provided for configuration of a special subframe pattern configuration. The method may include determining a configuration of a primary special subframe pattern configuration. The first special subframe configuration may have a corresponding secondary special subframe pattern configuration for multiplexing with the primary special subframe pattern configuration. The method may further include, responsive to a downlink assignment following the configuration of the primary special subframe pattern configuration, using the secondary special subframe pattern configuration instead of the primary special subframe pattern configuration. Abstract: A method and apparatus which allows dynamic TDD UL/DL configuration that is able to adapt to an instantaneous traffic situation. The values of at least one uplink/downlink configuration indication bit in a predetermined region in a received downlink time division duplex subframe of wireless data transmission are examined. A time division duplex uplink/downlink configuration for a predetermined configuration period is determined based on the examined values.
