  • Publication number: 20140003390
Abstract: Techniques are provided for a broadcast client of a wireless communication network. A method may include receiving broadcast content via broadcast delivery on a first resource associated with a first set of carriers. The method may include determining, during unicast idle mode, a second set of carriers comprising neighbor carriers in a current cell. The method may include modifying handoff priorities of the first set of carriers and the second set of carriers based on membership of each carrier in a common set of carriers comprising the first and second sets of carriers and further based on a priority order specified by the wireless communication network. The method may include determining whether to hand over to at least one carrier in one of the first and second sets of carriers based on a handoff decision that takes into account the modified handoff priorities.

  • Publication number: 20130344798
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product are provided in connection with facilitating hybrid unicast/broadcast service distribution. In one example, a communications device is equipped to provide a parity portion of titles in a channel of a service to a plurality of UEs at a first time, receive, from a UE at a second time, a request to access a title of the one or more titles, and provide an enablement item, to the requesting UE, which is a portion of the requested title that, when processed with the provided parity portion of the requested title, is sufficient to allow the requesting UE to decode and access to the requested title. In an aspect, the parity portion may be a parity portion of a fountain code encoded title, and the enablement item may be repair symbols of the fountain code encoded title.

  • Patent number: 8582455
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for controlling monitoring operations, such as the monitoring of signal strength, media access control layer overhead information data, application layer overhead information, and/or data in a device, such as a battery powered, mobile, communication device. A user interface status and/or a flow status can be monitored. Based at least in part on the user interface status and/or the flow status, a determination can be made as to when and/or how often monitoring is to be performed.

  • Publication number: 20130294321
Abstract: Techniques are provided for smooth transition between broadcast/multicast transmission and unicast transmission. A method for managing unicast and multicast services switching in a multi-band/multi-frequency wireless communications system (WCS) capable of both unicast and multicast signaling includes determining whether an aggregate demand for a content provided via dedicated unicast transmissions exceeds a threshold. The method includes switching transmission of the content from the dedicated unicast transmissions on one frequency to a multicast transmission on a second or more frequencies in response to determining that the aggregate demand exceeds the threshold.

  • Publication number: 20130258934
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus receives a user service description (USD) message. When a frequency indicated in the USD message is not a current frequency, the apparatus determines that a system information message is received, determines that the frequency indicated in the USD message is included in the system information message, determines that the frequency is a neighboring cell frequency, sets a priority of the frequency to a highest priority, and measures a signal strength of the frequency when the frequency is included in the system information message, performs a cell reselection determination procedure based on the signal strength of the frequency, performs cell reselection to the neighboring cell based on a result of the cell reselection determination procedure, and acquires the multicast service in the neighboring cell on the frequency.

  • Publication number: 20130262567
Abstract: Embodiments enable HTTP servers to pass incomplete and/or corrupted files in response to file requests from clients. In the various embodiments, HTTP servers may be enabled to generate status codes identifying that an incomplete version of a file is being returned in response to a file request. In an embodiment, an HTTP server may be enabled to determine the ability of a client to handle incomplete versions of files.

  • Publication number: 20130036234
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus establishes a file delivery session with a server in a broadcast network for system information. The apparatus also receives a plurality of metadata fragments in the file delivery session. The plurality of metadata fragments including at least one initialization segment description fragment, wherein the at least one initialization segment description fragment is associated with at least one media segment transmitted in another file delivery session.

  • Publication number: 20120300688
Abstract: Various embodiments provide methods and systems for identifying statistically multiplexed groups of services and coordinating the groups of services for multicast or broadcast over the same transmission channels. Further embodiments provide methods and systems for providing quality of service requirements for groups or subgroups of statistically multiplexed services. Coordination of the groups of services for multicast or broadcast over the same transmission channels may be based on the provided quality of service requirements. Various embodiments may identify groups of services and provide associated of service requirements by sending modified session start messages or separate group messages.
