  • Patent number: 8036136
Abstract: Systems and methods of allocating sub-channels are provided. A method a signal quality measure associated with a first mobile station is determined. It is also determined that the first mobile station has an associated Quality of Service (QoS) above a predetermined QoS. A number of sub-channels are allocated to the first mobile station based on the signal quality measure and QoS associated with the first mobile station, where more sub-channels are allocated for lower signal quality measures compared to higher signal quality measures.

  • Patent number: 7978724
Abstract: Systems and methods of allocating radio resources are provided. It is determined whether a bandwidth assigned to a communication station can be satisfied using available subchannels and a modulation and coding scheme (MCS). When the bandwidth cannot be satisfied using available subchannels and MCS, a number of the available subchannels and an MCS are selected. A power level for communications transmitted to the communication station is adjusted relative to a power level determined based a signal quality measurement. Information is transmitted to the communication station using the selected number of subchannels, MCS and adjusted power level.

  • Patent number: 7787885
Abstract: A system and method for expanding traffic channels in a wireless communications system, such as CDMA2000, includes a method for generating a forward link signal including encoding each of a first set of channels with a mutually corresponding channel code, such as a Walsh code, selected from a predetermined set of channel codes, and encoding each of a second set of channels with the same mutually corresponding channel codes. A scramble code is applied to the encoded second set of traffic channels, which is combined with the encoded first set of traffic channels to form an extended forward link signal. Each channel code corresponds to two forward link channels, which are selectively decoded using the scramble code.

  • Patent number: 7643406
Abstract: A system and method for sharing a forward link time slot are disclosed. Information being sent to each user sharing a time slot in a 1× evolution data only (1×EV-DO) frame is assigned a number of Walsh codes and allocated an amount of transmit power. The total amount of transmit power used by a base transceiver station for a time slot is divided among the users. The number of Walsh codes and amount of transmit power assigned to each user sharing a time slot can be based upon the RF conditions being experienced by the user.

  • Patent number: 7574236
Abstract: A system and method of operating an antenna in a beamforming mode or a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) mode. The method includes activating a first group of antenna elements to operate the antenna in the beamforming mode; and activating a second group of antenna elements to operate the antenna in the MIMO mode. The distance between adjacent antenna elements of the first group may be a half-wavelength at the antenna operating frequency, and the distance between adjacent antenna elements of the second group may be greater than a half-wavelength. If the antenna elements are configured as an array, the first group may include all of the elements of the array, and the second group may include only the elements in every other column of the array. The operation of the antenna in either the beamforming mode or the MIMO mode may be based on the RF environment in which subscriber units reside.

  • Patent number: 7532909
Abstract: A system and method for reducing set-up time for walkie-talkie calls. One or more mobile units are assigned to a first paging channel and a second paging channel. A first and second slot cycle may be determined using a first and second slot cycle index, respectively. The second paging channel slot cycle is determined using a negative slot cycle index. A mobile unit can then be configured to monitor the first paging channel during the first slot cycle. Similarly, the mobile unit may also be configured to monitor the second paging channel during the second slot cycle. The first paging channel may be used to provide the mobile unit with notification of a cellular call and the second paging channel may be used to provide notification of a walkie-talkie call. The second paging channel is checked more frequently than the first paging channel.
