  • Publication number: 20010001130
Abstract: A printing apparatus comprises a real-time command interpreter that functions even when the printing apparatus is off-line, and interprets control commands simultaneously with receiving data. The printing apparatus can therefore output pulses to the external devices even when printing is in progress or the printer is off-line. Such printing apparatus comprises a command detector for directly detecting predetermined command data from the received command data. An external controller controls an external device in accordance with predetermined command data detected by the command detection.

  • Patent number: 6185478
Abstract: A printer and control method therefor for printing to a specific location on an inserted form whether the form is loaded automatically or manually in the printer. When a specific command is received from a host, the printer selects the insertion operation used for the printing form. If automatic loading is selected, the leading edge of the form is set to a specific position in the printer by a form transportation mechanism, and printing then begins. If manually positioned form insertion is selected, printing begins directly with the printing form as inserted and positioned by the user.

  • Patent number: 6082910
Abstract: This printing apparatus is provided having a regular status data generating circuit for regularly generating status data. An automatic status selection and transmission circuit selects the status condition to be transmitted by the automatic status transmission operation, and a status data comparator compares the status data. By executing the automatic status selection and transmission command, the status is thereafter transmitted each time the selected status changes.

  • Patent number: 6031976
Abstract: In order to offer a printer capable of high throughput printing even when the same printing or printing that is partially different is repeated, the printing apparatus of present invention equipped with a storage unit for storing print image data based on print data received from the host device in a designated position and a printing controller and printer engine that performs print processing on the recording medium based on the print image data stored in the storage unit in accordance with control data received from the host device. Specifically, this printing apparatus features an erasure unit for selectively deleting print image data that has undergone the print processing from the storage unit in accordance with control data received from the host device.

  • Patent number: 5987224
Abstract: While eliminating the need for a dedicated on-line selector switch, a printing apparatus and control method is provided to improve the processes required to replenish consumable printing materials consumed during the printing operation. Using a transport mechanism for transporting the print medium and a printing mechanism for printing to the print medium, the printing apparatus accomplishes the printing process based on data received from a host device, selectively switches between an on-line state and an off-line state and notifies the host device of the currently selected state. The printing apparatus further comprises sensors for detecting the presence of consumable products, including roll paper and ink, that are consumed by the printing process, a switch with two functional settings, and a control device.

  • Patent number: 5911527
Abstract: A hybrid printer has mounted thereon a plurality of printing mechanisms and error processing appropriate to the respective printing mechanisms with differing functions and appropriate to the printing paper can be performed. Thermal printer state detector 65 and wire dot printer state detector 66 are provided which have the capability of detecting the respective states of thermal printing mechanism 10 and wire dot printing mechanism 20 mounted on hybrid printer 1. Further, printing mechanism selector 71 is capable of determining the printing mechanism selected from command data indicating the type paper. This makes it possible for state determination member 72 to know the error status of each printing mechanism and to determined which printing mechanism is in operation, and therefore it is possible to quickly perform error processing appropriate to the printing mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5594653
Abstract: The printing apparatus of the invention provides a control command interpreter whereby control commands can be interpreted even in an off-line state. The cause of the off-line state can then be determined while in the off-line state, and the host computer can be notified of the cause. This achieves a high throughput rate printing. The user can cancel the cut-sheet paper insertion wait-state at any time, and determine why an error occurred to enable recovery from the error. This printing apparatus further provides high data reliability, reduces host computer overhead, and is easy to use.

  • Patent number: 5222818
Abstract: A printer that prints characters or graphics on tape by means of a thermal print head, having a cutting means that cuts the tape at predetermined positions, and control means which act to eliminate printing defects such as gaps, or spaces, between printed dot strings. Gaps between printed dot strings, caused by a tape cutting operation that pulls the tape past the print head, is eliminated by the control means which reverses the tape feed mechanism in order to slacken the tape just prior to cutting. After cutting, the control means forwards the tape by an amount less than or equal to the amount reversed and printing is resumed. Printer also provides means for entry of lead margin length, total tape length, character spacing and character string to be printed by means of a keyboard. Rear margin length is computed by the printer.
