  • Patent number: 5700546
Abstract: A seal or bearing comprising a combination of a movable member and a stationary member, either one of the movable and stationary members being made of a low thermal expansion coefficient material, and the other being made of a carbon containing material, wherein a sliding surface of the movable or stationary member which is made of the low thermal expansion coefficient material is irradiated with an ion beam consisting essentially of nitrogen ions at the same time as titanium is vacuum-deposited on the sliding surface, thereby forming a thin titanium nitride film on the sliding surface, which provide a seal or bearing which has a reduced coefficient of friction, and which is improved in wear resistance.

  • Patent number: 5276761
Abstract: A hollow waveguide for ultraviolet wavelength region laser beams incorporates a glass tube composed of a glass material exhibiting a high transmissivity with respect to ultraviolet rays and an excellent environment resistant property, and a metal film exhibiting a high reflectivity with respect to the ultraviolet rays and formed outside the glass tube. The glass tube serves as an inner surface of the waveguide. The ultraviolet wavelength region laser beams are transmitted while being reflected by the inner surface of the glass tube and by an interface between the glass tube and the metal film.

  • Patent number: 5168702
Abstract: There is disclosed a thin torque converter, fluid coupling device mounted on a vehicle. The converter which has a smaller axial dimension than the prior art converter, comprises an outer race, an inner race, a number of sprags mounted between the races, and two thrust washers. The races and the sprags are held between the washers. The sprags are wider than the inner surface of the outer race, but narrower than the outer surface of the outer race. The washers have radial outward portions bent along the side end surfaces of the outer race. Snap rings anchored to the boss of the stator of the converter prevent the washers from coming off.
