  • Publication number: 20050071486
Abstract: Extensions to a communications protocol manage the exchange of data content and related metadata according to a hierarchical data content structure. The communications protocol is the ICE protocol, and the extensions include ICE DTD extensions. Data content is preferably offered according to a subscription service provided by a first network device. The first network device is preferably a content server. The data content is organized, and thereby distributed, according to a hierarchical data content structure defined by the ICE DTD extensions. The hierarchical data content structure provides a means for organizing the data content, preferably by subject-matter. The hierarchical data content structure includes a plurality of channels, and each channel is segmented into one or more content sub-channels. Each individual data content item is associated with at least one of the content sub-channels and corresponding channel.

The preferred system comprises version based content, a syndicator, subscriber content, and a subscriber. Preferably, the content comprises a version number and the subscriber content comprises a subscriber content version number. The version based content preferably comprises digital media. The version based content is preferably stored and organized on the syndicator in a tree like structure. The syndicator preferably compares the version number of the version based content with the subscriber content version number of the subscriber content. • Publication number: 20050060435
Abstract: A content server provides content to a first network device during a data synchronization between the two devices. A middleware filter selectively filters content provided by the content server such that selected content is provided to the first network device. The middleware filter is included within a second network device coupled between the content server and the first network device. The second network device acts as a proxy for the first network device to receive the content provided by the content server. The content is provided from the content server according to a subscription service between the content server and the first network device. The first network device is preferably a personal digital assistant (PDA) and the second network device is preferably a personal computer. • Publication number: 20050055374
Abstract: The method of and apparatus for providing localized information from an internet server or portal to a user without requiring the user to enter their location information preferably maintains a location table of the IP addresses for wireless access points and the location information for the access point. When a user accesses a portal through a wireless access point to obtain localized information, the portal then determines, using the IP address for the wireless access point and the location table, the location information corresponding to that wireless access point. The portal then provides the localized information to the user for their location based on the location information obtained from the location table without requiring the user to know or enter the location information. In an alternative embodiment, the location information is maintained at the wireless access point and automatically provided to the portal from the wireless access point.

  • Publication number: 20040133896
Abstract: A network device application programming interface (API) provides an interface to control and receive events from network devices. The network device API preferably resides within a control device, which is coupled to a network of devices. Each network device preferably uses IP-based protocols for sending control commands, and for receiving responses to the commands and asynchronous events. The network device API provides an interface that can be used across many different platforms. The interface is used as part of an application or as a standalone application. The network device API also provides a framework for defining and implementing a device control protocol. The framework for defining and implementing the device control protocol provides common functionality across multiple control and eventing protocols.

  • Patent number: 6751687
Abstract: Between a first equipment and a second equipment connected to a predetermined bus line, it is arranged that data for setting, etc. on input selection in the first equipment is instructed from the second equipment in the form of command having a predetermined format through the bus line, thus allowing an independent remote control to be performed between the first equipment and the second equipment. Moreover, data on input selection in the first equipment is transmitted to the second equipment, so that, for example, the remote control of the input selection in the first equipment linking with the operation of the second equipment will be performed satisfactorily.

  • Patent number: 6731858
Abstract: An electronic device has memory (configuration ROM) which is directly accessible from another electronic device. The memory has an area (for example, a “Model_ID” entry of a root directory) to store its own model information and another area (for example, a Model_ID” entry of a module information directory) to store model information of a module to which the electronic device is connected. The information pointing to a storage location of the module information directory is set at a “Module_info” entry of the root directory. The model information includes model ID for identifying models and user interface information for describing models (textual data and icon data). When another electronic device accesses the memory, it aquires the above information. This allows it to easily aquire model information of the module to which the electronic device is connected.

  • Patent number: 6639890
Abstract: An amplitude detection circuit detects the peak value of an output signal of a photo-detector amplified by a head amplifier. The peak value detected by the amplitude detection circuit is read into a drive controller, and compared with a target value suitable for coding in a binary format a detected signal. The gain of a variable gain amplifier is adjusted accordingly. Consequently, an analog signal processing circuit can stably codify the detected signal in a binary format. Under the control of the drive controller, a recording power level calculation circuit determines a test writing power level with which test writing is performed on a test track of a magneto-optical disk. The recording power level calculation circuit then calculates an actual record power for each zone of the magneto-optical disk according to the test writing power level.
