  • Publication number: 20020164982
Abstract: A mobile communication system can implement broadcasting control that generates broadcast information autonomously in a distributed manner, thereby obviating the need for an RNC (Radio Network Controller). Each base station has an IP address and a base station multicast address. Each base station sends its own system information to all base stations using the multicast address. Each base station generates its broadcast information from its own system information and the system information received from other base stations. Thus, it can generate the broadcast information autonomously in a distributed manner without using the RNC.

  • Publication number: 20020163902
Abstract: In a wireless base station, when a newly provided control unit receives an IP packet from one mobile station (102), it refers to a destination address in control information added to the IP packet (104), and determines whether the IP packet is one to be broadcast or multicast (106). If the value of destination address is at a value indicative of broadcasting or the like defined by IP, the IP packet is copied according to the subnet, and is sent back to a wireless link layer processor with its contents intact (108). Further, the wireless link layer processor is commanded to broadcast the sent-back IP packet in a wireless area and so forth (110), whereby the IP packet can be broadcast into a cell and so forth.

  • Publication number: 20020150228
Abstract: The present invention relates to a mobile communication system comprising a structure for realizing “network seamless” for roaming between different kinds of networks, “contents seamless” for converting different kinds of encoding or media therebetween, and “device seamless” for making it possible to utilize optimum I/O devices in conformity to surrounding environments. This mobile communication system detects a change in an environment in use concerning an object such as a mobile terminal, for example, notifies at least one apparatus relating to the change of the result of detection, sets various resources constituting a network in conformity to a new environment, and switches them. This makes it possible to construct a seamless network which automatically eliminates seams (restrictions) concerning changes in the environment and the like.

  • Publication number: 20020098838
Abstract: The present invention improves receiving quality compared to the prior art even if instantaneous control of transmission power is not executed. A mobile station MS#0 measures signal level received from surrounding base stations and determines to which base stations it is to be connected in order to satisfy a desired downlink receiving quality (step S1). The mobile station MS#0 notifies a radio network control station RNC of the desired based stations to which the mobile station is to be connected (step S2). Upon receiving the notification from the mobile station MS#0, the radio network control station RNC duplicates a downlink transmitted signal for the mobile station MS#0, if any, and transmits it to the selected base stations (step S3). The mobile station MS#0 receives signals transmitted by the base stations (step S4) and synthesizes these signals (step 5), thereby satisfying the desired downlink receiving quality.

  • Publication number: 20020082009
Abstract: The mobile station visiting a location registration area at the present time plans to move to another location registration area at a future time. The mobile station sends the moving schedule information to the location management agent in a prescribed format to notify it of the scheduled destination. Receiving the moving schedule information, the location management agent learns the location registration area corresponding to the scheduled destination among the plurality of location registration areas. The location management agent sets a moving schedule flag in the location registration database in accordance with the moving schedule information with that format, which is received from the mobile station, and makes an additional registration of the moving time and the destination location registration area. Then, at the future time, it updates the location registration database, thereby making a new location registration.

  • Publication number: 20020082005
Abstract: Efficient paging control is achieved in a communication system that selectively provides one of communication services implemented by integrating a plurality of communication systems. Before transmitting a downlink signal to a terminal, a gateway requests each of the communication systems to transmit a paging signal to the terminal. Receiving the paging signals transmitted from the communication systems, the terminal selects a communication system A with the lowest communication cost in accordance with communication cost information contained in the paging signal. The terminal sends a request for connection to the selected communication system A. As a result, the communication system A transmits the downlink signal to the terminal.

  • Publication number: 20020077142
Abstract: The present invention allows the cell shape of any base station in operation to be changed, thereby enabling services to be provided according to the needs. A mobile terminal attempts to synchronize with a perch channel to thereby check whether or not it can receive the signal, thereby determining whether it belongs to the cell of the base station. The mobile terminal uses the GPS to obtain location information to identify the location and notifies a cell control apparatus of results for cell determinations and location information. The cell control apparatus selects a base station for which the corresponding cell shape is to be changed, on the basis of the results for cell determinations and the location information. The cell control apparatus instructs the selected base station to change its cell shape. The base station changes its cell shape according to the instruction.

  • Publication number: 20020058493
Abstract: A retransmission control method is provided. In the method, each of the base stations 2-1-2-3 performs error judgment for a signal sent from a mobile station 1. Then, the base stations 2-1 and 2-3 sends results of error judgment to the base station 2-2 which is a communication partner of the mobile station 1. The base station 2-2 sends NACK for requesting retransmission to the mobile station 1 only when every result of error judgment of the base stations 2-1-2-3 indicates that there is an error.

  • Publication number: 20020037729
Abstract: At each wireless terminal, a receiving unit receives a signal transmitted from a wireless base station. A signal-to-noise ratio measurement unit measures an S/N of this received signal. In the wireless base station, data amount measurement unit measures the amount of data stored in each buffer therein. A maximum stay time measurement unit measures a maximum stay time of packets in each buffer. A classification by the maximum stay time unit classifies each wireless terminal based on the maximum stay time.
