  • Patent number: 8074869
Abstract: A reactive foil is used to assemble the components of rock bit cutters and to affix cutting elements to rock bit bodies. A small pulse of localized energy ignites the foil in a fraction of a second to deliver the necessary amount of heat energy to flow solder or braze and form a strong, true metallic joint. The reaction in the foil may be activated using optical, electrical, or thermal sources.

  • Publication number: 20110100287
Abstract: A telescoping boat railing including a rod having a first end with a fastener and a second end that telescopes relative to an opening in a hollow top rail of a boat. The top rail is supported horizontally by one of a plurality of vertical support members of a railing for the boat, which railing defines an opening for accessing the boat. Across the railing opening from the fastener is a receptacle formed co-linearly with the fastener and extending from a horizontal portion of the top of the railing. The rod is pulled out of the opening in the top rail in the direction of the receptacle and is removably attached by connecting the fastener and the receptacle. To return the rod to its nested position, the fastener is disconnected from the receptacle, and the rod is telescoped back into its nesting position in the hollow of the top rail.

  • Patent number: 7920712
Abstract: A loudspeaker is provided for receiving an electrical signal and transmitting an acoustic signal through a transmission medium. The system includes generally two elements: a coaxial transducer and an acoustic transformer. The coaxial transducer includes a high-frequency driver and a mid-frequency driver that are coaxially arranged. The acoustic transformer is acoustically coupled to the coaxial transducer and includes an initial horn section that expands from a first end to a second end in a direction away from the coaxial transducer. The initial horn section defines a plurality of openings therethrough, such that the initial horn section is acoustically opaque to high-frequency acoustic signals to thereby function as a waveguide for the high-frequency acoustic signals, while it is acoustically transparent to mid-frequency acoustic signals.

  • Patent number: 7649138
Abstract: A quickly attachable electric generator device for producing electric power from surfaces of hot or cold pipes. The invention provides a thermoelectric unit which includes a pedestal comprised of a material with high thermal conductivity on which a thermoelectric module is located. The pedestal includes a heat transfer element made to conform to a hot or cold cylindrical surface. The module also includes a module-to-air heat transfer element and the thermoelectric module is compressed between the air-to-module element and the pedestal. This element is referred to as a heat sink when energy is extracted from a hot surface and is referred to as a heat source when energy is flowing from the air and a cold surface. In preferred embodiments the heat transfer element is a thin flexible heat conductor that conforms to the hot or cold surface of various shapes and serves as a heat transfer conduit to transfer heat to or from a rigid portion of the pedestal.

  • Patent number: 7587488
Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for dynamically rating Internet content. A computer receives an indication that at least one URL is available to be rated and that resources (e.g., a content rater) are available for rating the URL. The computer selects a URL, which identifies a portion of Internet content, and transfers the URL to at least two different content classifiers. The computer accesses first rating data corresponding to the identified portion of Internet from a first content classifier. The computer accesses second rating data corresponding to the identified portion of Internet from a second content classifier. The computer combines at least the first rating data and the second rating data into a combined rating corresponding to a specified content category. The computer indicates that the identified portion of Internet content is included in the specified content category.

  • Patent number: 7421475
Abstract: Customer e-mail service requests are allocated to plural working groups for response through virtual queues that store unanswered e-mail and meter the unanswered e-mail to working queues that make the e-mails available to associated working groups. The working queues are replenished from the virtual queues to maintain above a minimum and up to a maximum number of e-mails. The virtual queues are manipulated to control e-mail flow rates by allocating e-mails to virtual queues based on desired factors and by moving e-mail between virtual queues as needed to manage working groups. The virtual queues allow tracking of e-mail response metrics and monitoring of working group performance and timeliness.

  • Patent number: 7062143
Abstract: A method and modular mechanism are provided for protecting fiber optic cables. The modular mechanism includes an inner member for receiving the fiber optic cable, and an outer container receiving and retaining the inner member, such as, an inner tube and outer tube. The inner member and the outer container have predefined shapes to create an interference with each other, limiting a bend radius of the fiber optic cable.

  • Patent number: 6132287
Abstract: A toy vehicle comprises a chassis having a front end, a rear end and first and second lateral sides extending between the ends. Two wheel trains are disposed on separate lateral sides of the chassis. Each train includes first, second, third and fourth wheels, a first pair of the wheels being mounted on separate axles fixed with respect to the chassis and a second pair of the wheels being mounted on separate axles movable along the first lateral side of the chassis. A separate continuous track extends about each wheel train so that the track engages over at least the first wheel and another other wheel. A separate linkage connects each second pair of wheels with the chassis and is configured to displace the second pair of wheels between a first wheel arrangement in which the wheels of the train are generally disposed in a single row, and a second wheel arrangement in which the wheels of the train are generally disposed in two rows and all the wheels engage the track.
