  • Publication number: 20140369899
Abstract: A cooling system in an aftertreatment unit for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine is disclosed. The aftertreatment unit includes a selective catalyst reduction (SCR) module, an exhaust conduit portion, and a number of reductant injectors. Each reductant injector includes an injector coolant outlet. The cooling system supplies coolant to the reductant injectors by a coolant pump. A phase separation tank, positioned at a higher gravitational potential downstream of the reductant injectors, includes a number of compartments. Each compartment includes at least one inlet portion and at least one outlet portion. Each inlet portion is in fluid communication to the injector coolant outlet and each outlet portion is in fluid communication with the coolant reservoir. A coolant anti-siphon line portion facilitates fluid communication between the reductant injectors and the phase separation tank.

  • Publication number: 20140300061
Abstract: A grommet for insertion into an opening of a radiator header plate may have a cylindrical outer surface having a body outer diameter, an annular shoulder proximate a top surface and extending outwardly beyond the outer surface of the body, and an annular bead proximate a bottom surface of the body and extending outwardly beyond the outer surface of the body and have a bead outer diameter that is greater than the body outer diameter. The annular bead may include a tapered bottom portion having a decreasing outer diameter as the tapered bottom portion extends downwardly toward the bottom surface of the body, with the tapered bottom portion terminating with a bottom outer diameter that is less than the body outer diameter.

  • Publication number: 20140299304
Abstract: An aluminum tube-and-fin assembly for easy insertion into a manifold seal is provided. The assembly comprises a generally cylindrical, elongated tube and fins extending radially outward from the body. A bead is formed circumferentially around the tube end. A smooth, curved, circumferentially disposed bead corner is interposed between the bead and the tube end. The bead corner has a frustoconical curved shape and a radii of curvature of at least 0.2 mm.

  • Publication number: 20140284037
Abstract: A tube-and-fin assembly comprises a generally elliptical, cylindrical, elongated aluminum tube and a plurality of aluminum fins. Each fin extends outward from a side of the tube body to an apex. The aluminum assembly has a ratio of fin height to fin density (Mokire ratio) of between about 0.3200 and about 0.4125. The fin height is about 6.4 mm to about 6.6 mm and the fin density is about 16 to 20 fins per inch (FPI). The fins may be part of a corrugated sheet affixed to either side of the tube. The aluminum assembly achieves heat transfer performance similar to that of copper assemblies while maintaining a similar space claim.

  • Patent number: 8820272
Abstract: A cooling system for an engine includes a pump driven by the engine and configured to circulate coolant through the engine. The cooling system also includes a heat exchanger configured to receive coolant from the engine and to reduce a temperature of the coolant. The cooling system further includes a thermostat fluidly connected to the engine and the heat exchanger. The thermostat is configured to selectively direct coolant from the engine to the heat exchanger when a temperature of the coolant is greater than a temperature threshold of the thermostat. The thermostat is also configured to substantially block coolant from passing to the heat exchanger when the temperature of the coolant is less than or equal to the temperature threshold. The cooling system also includes a valve fluidly connected to the engine and the heat exchanger, and connected in parallel with the thermostat.
