  • Publication number: 20110315889
Abstract: A beta radiation monitor (70,90), comprising a gas flow proportional detector (60) for detecting beta radiation emitted by a beta emitter external to the detector; a fill gas supply (51) configured to supply a fill gas to the detector, wherein the fill gas comprises nitrogen; a temperature sensor (72) for measuring temperature; and a controller (64) in communication with the temperature sensor for adjusting an operational parameter of the monitor in accordance with the measured temperature. The operational parameter may comprise a voltage applied across the fill gas, which may be thermistor controlled, or a beta radiation detection threshold of the detector. The fill gas is supplied by a nitrogen generator. The gas flow proportional detector may be a large-area detector.

  • Publication number: 20110121003
Abstract: The invention relates to a tank for storing fluid. In one embodiment, a tank (10) for storing fluids is disclosed, the tank comprising a vessel (12) for receiving and storing fluid, and a reinforcing structure (14) for the vessel. The reinforcing structure is located externally of the vessel. The vessel has a generally quadrilateral shape in plan view, and a base (16) which is generally dish-shaped, with an outlet (18) located in a position which facilitates discharge of the fluid from the vessel. In providing a tank having a vessel which is generally quadrilateral shape in plan view, the tank offers benefits over prior cylindrical tanks in terms of maximising the use of available storage space on a ship, or on a vehicle used to transport the tank. Additionally, in providing a tank having a vessel which has a base that is generally dish-shaped, the tank offers improvements over prior quadrilateral shape tanks.

  • Patent number: 7827855
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to methods and kits for measuring and analyzing degradation of adsorbent materials, particularly for adsorbent materials used in gas separation processes. The present invention can assess the damage to adsorbent due to contamination including moisture contamination and it can assess damage that is not contaminant-related. The advantage to the present invention is that it can detect degradation of adsorbent directly at the plant site before the degradation affects production. Another advantage is that it can conclusively determine whether the adsorbent is damaged. Because it is so inexpensive to run, the test of the present invention can be conducted to determine adsorbent damage and to confirm whether the damage continues to be an issue. The present invention can test adsorbents in any form, including, but not limited to, bead, pellet or powder form.

  • Publication number: 20100116134
Abstract: High rate and high crush-strength adsorbent particles and collections of such particles, and particularly LiLSX particles, are provided. A binder is employed in the form of a colloidal solution during the method of manufacture. Suitable binders include various silica binders. The particles are made using the steps of mixing, agglomeration, calcination and in the case of certain adsorbents such as LiX and LiLSX, ion exchange and activation. When the adsorption rate is expressed in the form SCRR/?p (mmol mm2/g s), desirable collections of adsorbent particles can have values of at least 4.0 for the highly-exchanged Li (at least 90% Li exchanged) form of the collection of particles and can further be characterized by particles having average crush strengths of at least 0.9 lbf for particles having an average diameter of at least about 1.0 mm.

  • Publication number: 20100095474
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner has a hose and wand assembly, onto which a floor tool may be attached. Power and signals are transmitted down electrical conductors in the hose. In order to permit free movement of the hose, the hose is divided into portions having a joint therebetween. Conductors of one hose portion terminate in contact anus in the joint. The contact arms are in sliding intimate contact with slip rings. The slip rings are connected to conductors of the other hose portion. Thus, the hose portions may rotate relative to one another without causing damage to the electrical connection along the hose.

  • Publication number: 20100095479
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner has a hose and wand assembly onto which a floor tool may be attached. The wand includes a plurality of telescoping tubes which can slide between retracted and extended positions. In order to be able to transmit power and signals from the vacuum cleaner to the end of the wand assembly, conductors are provided in a channel in the hose. The hose is connected to the interior of the wand, just beyond the last telescoping joint, with the conductors extending beyond the end of the hose to a connector at the far end of the wand. This arrangement automatically provides a reliable electrical connection down the wand. Previously, electrical conductors were not employed with this type of wand as it was not straightforward to provide electrical connections across the telescoping parts.

  • Publication number: 20090311400
Abstract: A food rack including a frame having a plurality of food supporting members mounted rotatably within the frame. At least one end of the food supporting members are detachable from the frame to allow the food supporting members to be passed through the food items. When food items are supported on the food supporting members and the frame is placed over a cooking surface, each of the food items contacts the cooking surface and movement of the frame parallel to the cooking surface causes rotation of the food supporting members.
