  • Patent number: 5823161
Abstract: A fuel injection device for internal combustion engines, having a high-pressure fuel pump, which pumps fuel from a low-pressure chamber via a feed line into a high-pressure collection chamber that communicates via high-pressure lines with the individual injection valves that protrude into the combustion chamber of the engine to be supplied. In order for this system to make variable injection cross sections at the injection valves possible, these injection valves are embodied as injection valves with an outward-opening valve member, via whose controllable opening stroke motion in the direction of the combustion chamber, a variable injection cross section can be adjusted at the injection valve.

  • Patent number: 5782620
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines which has a moving part supported in a housing bore and on its jacket face on one side, has an exit opening that is under high pressure, and whose bearing is improved by virtue of the fact that on the jacket face of the part or in the wall of the housing bore, at least one pressure compensation is provided. The compensation face is connected to a high pressure source, is disposed on a side of the jacket face of the part which side is remote from the exit opening, and is continuously covered by the wall of the housing bore. As a result, a compensation of the pressure action by means of the pressure field prevailing in the region of the exit opening occurs so that an improved, less damage-prone bearing is produced with a greater high pressure tightness of the moving part.

  • Patent number: 5700139
Abstract: A fuel injection pump of the distributor type which has at least one pump piston driven in a reciprocating stroke motion, a rotating distributor shaft which via a distributor bore upon rotation establishes a communication between the pump work chamber, defined by the pump piston, and an injection nozzle, and a switching valve for metering the fuel injection quantity. To achieve highly stable hydraulics upon opening and closing of the switching valve, a low-pressure piston is connected to the valve member of the switching valve; the low-pressure piston is axially displaceably guided on the low-pressure side of the switching valve, downstream of the outlet of a relief bore, in a wall segment. Preferably, the outer diameter of the low-pressure piston is made to largely approximate the diameter of the seat face of the valve member on the associated valve seat.

  • Patent number: 5692475
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines which has a moving part supported in a housing bore and on its jacket face on one side, has an exit opening that is under high pressure, and whose bearing is improved by virtue of the fact that at least one closed annular groove is provided on the jacket face of the part or in the wall of the housing bore, axially adjacent to the exit opening. As a result, a more even pressure distribution of the pressure field prevailing in the regions of the exit opening is achieved on the circumference of the moving part and as a result, a less damage prone, improved bearing with great high pressure tightness of the moving part is provided.

  • Patent number: 5582153
Abstract: In a fuel injection pump of the distributor type, a solenoid valve is provided in the distributor and the valve member of this solenoid valve is supported in an axial bore of the distributor and actuated by a magnet fixed to the housing in order to block the connection between a pump working space of the distributor-type injection pump and a relief space during an intended high-pressure injection phase. Inherent in its construction, a distributor of such a fuel injection pump has a certain axial play in its mounting and this has an effect on the actuating travel of the valve member in the distributor in relation to the fixed electromagnet.

  • Patent number: 5335136
Abstract: The invention relates to an electronic circuit arrangement for triggering excitation windings of electromagnetic components, provided with supplementary circuit elements, in particular free-running circuit elements, preferably solenoid valves (MV.sub.1 to MV.sub.n), whereby in order to provide a flexible open-loop control, the components are each connected in series to a controllable contact element (3). To reduce the degree of complexity of the circuit, the manufacturing price and the space requirement, it is proposed that the connecting terminals (1, 4) of this series connection lead directly, and the connections (2) between the components (MV.sub.1 to MV.sub.n) and the contact elements (3) lead via diodes (D.sub.1 to D.sub.n), respectively, to a collecting point (A, B, C), to which collecting points (A, B, C) is linked one and the same supplementary circuit-element configuration (T.sub.F,C.sub.L,10,11) shared by all components.

  • Patent number: 5267546
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the flow of fuel for a gasoline or diesel gasoline engine controls a solenoid valve for actuating the fuel pump. A pump piston is driven by the camshaft and, in turn, pressurizes the fuel for delivery to the individual cylinders. Based on the operation of the solenoid valve, the beginning of the injection of fuel and the end of the injection of fuel are established Based upon spaced angular markings on the camshaft, a control unit determines the trigger signals for actuating the solenoid valve. To calculate the trigger signals, the markings on the camshaft are counted and interpolated therebetween over time. The interpolation is based on the instantaneous rotational speed N of the camshaft, which is sensed immediately before performing the interpolation.

  • Patent number: 5245501
Abstract: A process for controlling and measuring the movement of an armature of an electromagnetic switching member with an excitation coil is proposed, which has the following steps: a current (i) or a voltage (u1) is applied to the excitation winding (3) in order to move the armature into a first actuatable position; before the start of the movement of the armature, the current or the voltage is raised above a value at which the armature remains in the actuated position, and before termination of the movement of the armature the current or the voltage is reduced to a defined value, which suffices to hold the armature in the actuated position; finally, the temporal variations in the current or the voltage are measured after setting of the defined value, for the purpose of recognizing the termination of the armature movement.

  • Patent number: 5239968
Abstract: The invention relates to an electrically controlled injection system for internal combustion engines, in which a magnet valve that is open when without current is used to control the fuel quantity of a high-pressure chamber in the injection pump. A pressure chamber communicates via a pressure conduit directly with the pump work chamber of the high-pressure pump, and a connection from the pressure chamber to a diversion chamber is controlled by a movable valve member via a valve seat. A diversion bore, and a pressure equalization piston is disposed on the valve member, via a neck, on a side remote from the magnet, so that approximately the same pressure as on the magnet side of the movable valve member prevails on the face end of this pressure equalization piston. The chambers on both face ends of the valve member communicate with one another through a connecting conduit, and a further connecting conduit leads from the magnet chamber to a leakage chamber.

  • Patent number: 4793313
Abstract: A fuel injection apparatus for internal combustion engines in which via an electrically controlled valve communication is established between a pump work chamber of a fuel injection pump and a low-pressure fuel chamber, and the switching times and movement times of the valve member of the valve are detected with the aid of a switching position transducer. The actual switching times are used for correction of the control times of the valve and thus for correction of the quantity of fuel attaining injection.

  • Patent number: 4653455
Abstract: The injection pump has a pump piston driven with a constant stroke which pumps fuel at injection pressure to an injection nozzle so long as an electrically actuated overflow valve blocks the flow of the fuel overflowing via an overflow conduit to a low-pressure chamber. The overflow valve is a needle valve, the valve needle of which, opening inward toward a pressure chamber that can be placed under injection pressure, by means of a conical closing surface radially defining a needle tip controls a valve seat that widens conically toward the pressure chamber. The cone angle of the closing surface is larger than the cone angle of the associated valve seat and the closing surface forms a sealing edge, the diameter of which is equal to or only slightly smaller than the guide diameter of the guide shank on the valve member.

  • Patent number: 4461427
Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines, in particular a cold-starting valve which has a valve needle opening counter to the force of a closing spring, the valve needle being additionally urged in the closing direction by an adjusting piston. The adjusting piston rests on a yielding stop formed by the closing spring. The stop is formed by the upper valve plate, which has a passageway bore for an extension tang of the adjusting piston. The extension tang forms a pre-stroke stop for the valve needle. A restoring spring is associated with the adjusting piston and is disposed inside the spring chamber, which surrounds the extension tang of the adjusting piston. At least one of the spring support plates has an inner annular wall protruding in collar-like fashion, which surrounds the engaged tang of the adjusting piston or valve needle.
