  • Publication number: 20150135024
Abstract: A transmitting node communicates with a receiving node using a multi-layer communications protocol having a lower media access control, MAC, layer and a higher radio link control, RLC, layer. An RLC controller operates in an RLC unacknowledged mode, RLC UM. A MAC controller operates using hybrid automatic repeat request, HARQ, for transmitted MAC protocol data units. The RLC controller in the RLC UM transmits RLC protocol data units via the MAC layer. The MAC controller monitors transmission errors at the MAC layer and informs the RLC controller when detecting a predetermined number of consecutive transmission errors or a predetermined number of transmission errors during a predetermined time period so that the RLC controller can perform one or more actions.

  • Patent number: 8995283
Abstract: When a serving Node B has deactivated Continuous Packet Connectivity and the UE then is reconfigured with a RRC reconfiguration message, it can happen that the UE acts as though CPC is activated whereas the serving Node B, on the other hand, acts as though CPC functionality is still deactivated. In several embodiments of techniques for addressing this problem, previously known signaling messages and/or user plane frame headers are modified to include new indicators/parameters, which are used to signal that a given UE should be expected to have non-uniform behavior with respect to remembering CPC activation status after acting on a RRC Reconfiguration message, because it is a Release 7 or Release 8 mobile station. These new indicators/parameters may also be used by a Node B, in some embodiments, to acknowledge the receipt of an indication from an RNC that non-uniform behavior should be anticipated for a given UE.

  • Publication number: 20150071231
Abstract: Explicit discard indications are used that allows a radio network controller, when operating in a multi-point High Speed Downlink Packet Access, HSDPA, scenario, to send data to a user equipment via plural radio base stations while reducing the risk for unnecessary duplicate data to be sent over the Uu interface between the radio base stations and the user equipment.

  • Publication number: 20150016384
Abstract: A method and device for obtaining multipoint transmission to a user equipment via a first and a second cell of a wireless communication network. The first cell provides a first radio link to the user equipment at a first frequency. The device includes a link control unit configured to order the second cell to set up a second radio link to the user equipment at the first frequency in order to obtain multipoint transmission to the user equipment. A first notifying unit is configured to notify the first cell that it is a primary radio link participating in the multipoint transmission.

  • Publication number: 20150003363
Abstract: Techniques for selectively steering traffic over E-DCH or over PRACH in a UMTS network are disclosed. An example method, implemented in a base station, includes the receiving (62, 72) of configuration data from a controlling node, such as a UTRAN RNC, the configuration data including parameters that define a condition for triggering a change in random access mode. The configuration data may include one or more resource-related thresholds and time-to-trigger values. The base station monitors (64, 74) one or more resource-related conditions and detects an event for triggering a change in random access mode. In some embodiments, the base station sends (66) a trigger message to the controlling network node, in response to said detecting, the trigger message indicating that a change in random access mode is needed. In other embodiments, the base station executes (76) a change in random access mode, in response to said detecting.

  • Publication number: 20140342749
Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to a method in a radio base station for handling Uplink Closed Loop Transmit Diversity, UL CLTD. The radio base station is configured to control UL CLTD of a user equipment (10) served by the radio base station. The radio base station receives from a radio network controller (15) an indication indicating a change in the UL CLTD. The radio base station then removes UL CLTD related operation for the user equipment based on the received indication.

  • Publication number: 20140321435
Abstract: The proposed technology relates to the issue of supporting release of common radio resources in a radio communication network. A radio network controller (200) sends an indication of a value of a timer for implicit release of common radio resources to a base station (100). The base station (100) receives the indication of a value of a timer for implicit release of common radio resources and determines whether to release common radio resources based on the indication of a value of the timer for implicit release of common radio resources. In this way, by using the indication of a value of the timer for implicit release the base station (100) will be able to correctly determine whether to release the common resources upon reception of a report of empty buffer status from a UE. This will eliminate misinterpretations of the empty buffer status report, and avoid unnecessary radio link failures.

  • Publication number: 20140211652
Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for signal interaction with a radio network controller and a radio base station where a report signal comprising information indicating downlink performance associated with a data queue in the radio base station is generated and transmitted to the radio network controller. Hereby scheduling in the radio network controller can take into account the downlink performance associated with a data queue.

  • Publication number: 20140086220
Abstract: Techniques for supporting concurrent deployment of 2-millisecond and 10-millisecond TTI for E-DCH transmissions in CELL_FACH state and Idle Mode are disclosed. One example method comprises receiving a (310) transport block from a mobile terminal, wherein said transport block is transmitted using either a 10-millisecond or 2-millisecond TTI, and sending (320), to an RNC, an indication of whether data carried by the transport block was transmitted using the 10-millisecond TTI or the 2-millisecond TTI. In some embodiments, the indication is sent in a user plane frame sent over a base-station-to-RNC interface. A spare bit in an uplink data frame sent to the RNC may be used, for example.

  • Publication number: 20140079144
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatus for configuring additional CPICHs, e.g. third CPICH, fourth CPICH, etc., to support MIMO transmissions of rank three or higher. The additional CPICHs may be configured with two or more power levels. A radio network controller (RNC) sends configuration information for the additional CPICHs to a serving base station in a cell to configure the additional CPICHs. The additional CPICHs can be configured to have a fixed power level, or multiple power levels. When the additional CPICHs are configured with multiple power levels, the base station can select the appropriate power level for each CPICH in dependence on current scheduling decisions in order to reduce inference.
