Publication number: 20250123502Abstract: A housing assembly for an electronics-enabled device includes a housing wall having parallel inner and outer faces, with a hinge base affixed through the wall. The hinge base has a shank extending through the wall and a joint mount exterior to the housing for hingedly mounting an external component. An anchor plate inside the housing is welded to the shank, preventing axial withdrawal of the hinge base by obstruction against the inner face. The welded connection rotationally keys the anchor plate to the hinge base. The assembly enables integration of electronics components mounted on the anchor plate, which can serve as a thermal conductor between heat-generating components and an external heatsink via the hinge base. In electronics-enabled eyewear, the hinge base provides hinged connection of a temple to an eyewear frame. Manufacturing involves locating the hinge base and anchor plate, translationally fastening them together threadedly, and spot-welding for rotational keying.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2024Publication date: April 17, 2025Inventors: Emily Lauren Clopp, Jun Lin, Douglas Wayne Moskowitz, Stephen Andrew Steger, Nicholas Daniel Streets

Publication number: 20250117089Abstract: A wearable electronic device includes an electrode array for transdermal stimulation of a sensory nerve that itself innervates a body part distal to a worn location of the wearable electronic device. The transdermal stimulation is configured to induce an electrical current or voltage that evokes a sensory impression at an area innervated by the sensory nerve, not at the stimulated sensory nerve itself. In one implementation, the wearable electronic device takes a finger ring form factor worn on a proximal phalanx of an index finger. In this configuration, the wearable electronic device can stimulate a portion of a branch of the median nerve extending through the index finger. Upon stimulation of the median nerve, a user wearing the finger ring may perceive pressure applied to the user's fingertip.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2024Publication date: April 10, 2025Inventors: Jacob Segil, Craig Field Sampson, Dustin Tyler, Sergio Alonso Marquina, Nicholas Daniel Phillips-Tanchuico

Patent number: 12078803Abstract: A near-eye display (NED) includes a source assembly, a waveguide outside a field-of-view of a user, and a main optic within the field-of-view. The waveguide expands light emitted from the source assembly in at least one dimension and out-couple the expanded light. The main optic is partially transparent and is positioned such that the user of the NED looks through the main optic to view a local area surrounding the NED. The main optic receives light from the local area, combines the received light with the expanded light to generate combined light, and directs the combined light to the user's eye-box.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2020Date of Patent: September 3, 2024Assignee: META PLATFORMS TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventor: Nicholas Daniel Trail

Patent number: 11983318Abstract: A retinal imaging system includes a projector, an imaging device, and a controller coupled to an eye tracking system under test. The projector emits a light pattern to be delivered to a pupil of an eye, a location of the pupil being estimated by the eye tracking system under test. The imaging device captures one or more images of a retina of the eye illuminated with at least a portion of the light pattern. The controller determines one or more eye tracking parameters based on the captured one or more images of the retina. The controller compares each determined eye tracking parameter with each of estimated one or more eye tracking parameters, wherein values for the one or more eye tracking parameters are estimated by the eye tracking system under test. The controller characterizes each estimated eye tracking parameter based on the comparison.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2023Date of Patent: May 14, 2024Assignee: META PLATFORMS TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventors: Robin Sharma, Nicholas Daniel Trail, Robert Dale Cavin, Kyle Justin Curts

Patent number: 11906750Abstract: A head-mounted-display includes an electronic display emitting image light and a varifocal block receiving the image light and outputting the image light in at least one of the focal planes of the varifocal block. The varifocal block includes a back optical element, a front optical element, and an actuator assembly coupled to the back and front optical element. The front optical element is positioned closer to an exit pupil than the back optical element, and separated from the back optical element by an adjustable distance, the magnitude of which determines in which of the focal planes the image light is presented. The actuator assembly simultaneously adjusts positions of the back optical element and the front optical element to vary the adjustable distance between the back optical element and the front optical element in accordance with an estimated vergence depth of the user.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2021Date of Patent: February 20, 2024Assignee: META PLATFORMS TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventor: Nicholas Daniel Trail

Patent number: 11854043Abstract: An on-line marketplace provides systems and methods for a mutually beneficial messaging campaign with one or more merchants, in order to promote the merchants' products. One aspect of the messaging campaign includes augmenting the merchants' budgets across multiple commercial channels. The channels may include merchant-operated channels, marketplace-operated channels, and/or third party channels. The marketplace selects when and how to augment the merchants' budgets. The augmented budget comprises an overall content budget for the messaging campaign, including a first budget portion provided by the merchant(s) and a second budget portion provided by the on-line marketplace. The augmented budget may be determined based on a weighted combination of goals of the marketplace and one or more merchants. The augmented budget may be segmented into static and dynamic portions, in which the dynamic portion is varied between channels to determine variables to optimize budget allocation and message performance.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2022Date of Patent: December 26, 2023Assignee: ETSY, INC.Inventors: Maxwell Tang, Nicholas Daniel
