  • Publication number: 20100054190
Abstract: A system and method are provided for mobile Internet Protocol (IP) addressing, in a multi-mode wireless communications access terminal (AT). The method provides an AT with an IP address (ATA), and a care-of-address (CoA) in each of a plurality of networks. In one aspect, the AT selects a first network for transmission, from the plurality of networks. The AT sends an IP packet to a correspondent node (CN) via a first mobile node (MN) external device. Regardless of the network selected, the AT is able to use the ATA as a source address. Sending the IP packet to the CN may include creating a tunnel between the first MN and the HA. The IP packet is sent to the HA using the first CoA as a tunnel source address, and the HA sends the IP packet to the CN using the ATA as the source address.

  • Patent number: 7653037
Abstract: A system and method are provided for distributing wireless network access parameters in a multi-mode communications user terminal (UT). The method includes: establishing a link between a UT and a first communications network (i.e., a cellular network); accessing a parameters server via the first network; downloading access parameters for a wireless, second communications network (i.e., a Wireless Local Area Network); and, using the downloaded access parameters to establish a wireless link between the UT and the second communications network. The downloaded access parameters may include information such as a security key, Service Set IDentifier (SSID), traffic channel allocation, and optimization parameters including transmit power, quality of service (QoS) settings, and operational mode. Alternately, the database may cross-reference UT ID to parameters such as QoS, IP address, gateway information, subnet mask, Domain Name Server (DNS) information, or geographical location.

  • Patent number: 7630711
Abstract: A wireless communications device is configurable to communicate with either one of two networks over a wireless medium, each of the two networks having a different air interface protocol. Additionally, the wireless device includes stored provisioning information for a set of networks of a first type and can map this first provisioning information into a second format for use with networks of a second type. The device also includes a non-volatile memory for storing default provisioning information so that some information remains available regardless of what is erased from the memory. The default provisioning information is enough to establish a connection over one of the available networks and allow reconstruction of a provisioning list.

  • Patent number: 7603662
Abstract: Intermediate code is executable on a virtual machine. Hence, source code that is compiled on a first computing device can be distributed to a second computing device in an intermediate form as long as the second computing device has the appropriate virtual machine. In this way, the compilation can be done without regard to the underlying native processor on the second computing device. However, the intermediate code loses the original type information defined in the source code. By determining the variable types in the intermediate code, the intermediate code can be converted to a different intermediate language.

  • Publication number: 20090248437
Abstract: In certain embodiments, an on-demand portable medical record system using near field communication includes a near field communication (NFC) storage device adapted to retrieve patient medical data for storage on the NFC storage device and a NFC retrieval device adapted to engage in near field communication with the NFC storage device to retrieve the patient medical data from the NFC storage device. An emergency on-demand portable medical record system using near field communication includes a NFC-enabled medical alert device storing a patient identifier, and a NFC retrieval device adapted to engage in near field communication with the NFC-enabled medical alert device to retrieve the patient identifier from the NFC storage device. The NFC-enabled medical alert device transfers the patient identifier to the NFC retrieval device via near field communication, and patient medical data is transferred to a medical facility upon verification of the patient identifier.

  • Publication number: 20090198608
Abstract: An auction bidding system is provided. The system allows media content providers, such as advertisers, to define bidding constraints for a targeted audience and bid on wireless device assets, such as wireless device memory, application, ringtone, wallpaper and the like, if a biddable wireless device asset is defined. Additionally, the system provides to wireless device users with an option to participate in the allocation of their respective wireless device assets, such as memory, application, ringtone, wallpaper and the like and define conditions, such as content type, time period, and the like, which is to be met in order for the allocation of the wireless device asset to occur. In one or more aspects, wireless device users may be compensated in some form based on their willingness to opt-in to the asset allocation plan.

  • Publication number: 20090176503
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that facilitate wireless communication using resource utilization messages (RUMs), in accordance with various aspects. A RUM may be generated for a first node, such as an access point or an access terminal, to indicate that a first predetermined threshold has been met or exceeded. The RUM may be weighted to indicate a degree to which a second predetermined threshold has been exceeded. The first and/or second predetermined thresholds may be associated with various parameters associated with the node, such as latency, throughput, data rate, spectral efficiency, carrier-to-interference ratio, interference-over-thermal level, etc. The RUM may then be transmitted to one or more other nodes to indicate a level of disadvantage experienced by the first node.

  • Patent number: 7539491
Abstract: A general global gateway (GGG) permits authenticating between a CDMA network and a GSM network such that a mobile station having a subscription in a GSM network can roam into a CDMA network and be authenticated to use the CDMA network. The GGG obtains authentication parameters from the mobile station and determines whether the authentication parameters satisfy GGG authentication criteria. During the authentication process, the mobile station is placed in “SMS only” status until authorized by the GGG. Checks are made during the authentication process to assure the GGG and mobile station agree on the number of GSM network accesses and to assure the mobile station is authorized for GSM access for a time period.

  • Publication number: 20080304461
Abstract: A system and method are provided for a multi-network wireless communications access terminal (AT) to access multi-network coverage. The method registers a multi-network AT in a first communications network. In response to registering with the first network, the AT receives information via the first network that is required for accessing a second communications network (e.g., an IEEE 802.20 or 1xEV-DO network). The AT obtains services accessed via the second network, in response to the access information received via the first network. For example, the second network access information may be system information, channel information, or access point parameters. The AT retains the option of obtaining services accessed via the first network if the second network cannot be accessing the second network.

  • Publication number: 20080049702
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to an access terminal, and method for selecting an access point in a communications system. The access terminal may include memory and a processor. The processor may be configured to maintain in the memory a database containing a list of access points that have previously served the access terminal with at least a minimum quality of service, the processor being further configured to use the list to search for an access point to associate with, or search for an access point to handoff the access terminal to during operation. In addition to, or alternatively, the processor may also be configured to maintain in the database a second list of access points. The database may be used by the processor to search for an access point that is not on the second list to associate with, or handoff the access terminal to.
