  • Patent number: 8416728
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that facilitate wireless communication using resource utilization messages (RUMs), in accordance with various aspects. A RUM may be generated for a first node, such as an access point or an access terminal, to indicate that a first predetermined threshold has been met or exceeded. The RUM may be weighted to indicate a degree to which a second predetermined threshold has been exceeded. The first and/or second predetermined thresholds may be associated with various parameters associated with the node, such as latency, throughput, data rate, spectral efficiency, carrier-to-interference ratio, interference-over-thermal level, etc. The RUM may then be transmitted to one or more other nodes to indicate a level of disadvantage experienced by the first node.

  • Patent number: 8412191
Abstract: A system and method are provided for the management of user terminal (UT) cellular network services. The method includes: registering a UT in a cellular telephone network; accessing a management server; receiving UT-specific management instructions for cellular network services; and, requesting cellular network services for the UT in response to the UT-specific management instructions. In one aspect, the management server is embedded in the UT. Alternately, the management server is accessed via the cellular network. The UT-specific management instructions can be uploaded in a message received via a common control channel, such as Short Message Service (SMS) message or a paging channel message. As another alternative, the management server can be accessed via a UT Broadband subsystem with a hardwire management server interface, or a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) subsystem with a wireless management server interface, such as WiFi, Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11, or IEEE 802.15.

  • Publication number: 20130055302
Abstract: A method, system, and computer readable storage device (that stores the method) extract connectivity information from multiple telecommunication services, provided by a single multiple service provider. The method, system, and device merge the separate connectivity information from each service in a unified graph of telephone service users and digital service users (including common users of both services). The method, system, and device assigne trust values based on the connectivity information and shared data content between users. The method, system, and device may also issue a proxy certificate of authority (CA), by a trusted CA residing within the digital service, to provide digital service to a user of the telephone service in the unified graph, when the trusted CA is a nearest trusted CA in the unified graph.

  • Publication number: 20120278236
Abstract: A method and system for completing a purchase transaction includes receiving the non-confidential number to effect a purchase transaction from a caller identifier and requesting that a value account associated with the non-confidential number be debited, wherein the debit amount is associated with the purchase transaction. A request for authorization is transmitted to an operator of at least one of portable computing device and a landline phone, wherein the request seeks authorization to debit the value account. The at least one value account may comprise a credit account in which the telephone number may form part of the primary account number (PAN) governed by the ISO/IEC 7812 card number standard.

  • Patent number: 8200187
Abstract: A system and method are provided for controlling a cellular telephone account User Terminal (UT). The method includes: registering a UT with an account in a cellular telephone network; uploading a credit for cellular telephone network services to the UT from a second party; and, converting the credit to an account balance. When the UT accesses a cellular telephone network service (i.e., makes a call), then the account balance is debited. In one aspect, the method accesses a credit server funded by the second party. Then, the credit is uploaded in response to accessing the credit server. For example, the credit server may be a module embedded in the UT. Alternately, the credit server is accessed via the cellular telephone network. For example, an Internet Protocol (IP) network-connected credit server may be accessed via the cellular network.

  • Publication number: 20120047201
Abstract: Apparatus and methods distribute content by identifying a type of at least one available wireless communication link, selecting at least one content item for distribution based on a distribution rule that prioritizes the distribution according to a prioritization code of the content item and according to the type of the at least one available wireless communication link. Additionally, apparatus and methods selectively acquire, on a wireless device, one or more of the prioritized content. Thus, the described aspects enable efficient pushing of content to wireless devices over selected wireless communication links.

  • Patent number: 8064880
Abstract: A general global gateway (GGG) uses shared secret data to authenticate between a CDMA network and a GSM network such that a mobile station having a subscription in a GSM network can roam into a CDMA network and be authenticated to use the CDMA network without having a complete ANSI-41 subscription. The goal of authenticating a GSM subscriber in an ANSI-41 network using GSM authentication credentials is achieved by substituting encryption key Kc as SSD-A in the standard ANSI-41 computation of AUTHR using a CAVE algorithm.

  • Patent number: 8064904
Abstract: A general global gateway (GGG) internetworks between a first network and a second network so that a mobile station having a subscription in a first network can roam into a second network and be authenticated to use the second network. The GGG obtains authentication parameters from the mobile station and determines whether the authentication parameters satisfy GGG authentication criteria. If it does, then the GGG accesses the first network and stores authentication information from the first network for subsequent accesses to the first network by the mobile station.
