  • Patent number: 7037696
Abstract: A truncated glucanase with an improved thermal stability and a higher specific enzymatic activity than the wild-type enzyme. The truncated glucanase is obtained by removing a number of amino acid residues from the C-terminal of the wild-type 1,3-1,4-?-D-glucanase of Fibrobacter succinogenes. The removal of the C-terminal amino acid residues can be conducted at the genetic level by modifying the gene encoding for the wild type enzyme using, for example, a PCR-based method. Or, it can also be conducted at the protein level by first producing the wild-type enzyme protein and then subjecting the wild-type protein to certain protease action to remove a portion of its C-terminal.

  • Publication number: 20050216959
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the convenient transformation of the somatic cells of animals. Somatic cell transformation is useful for medical and veterinary care of genetic diseases, and other therapeutic or animal improvement purposes. The method makes use of an electric discharge particle acceleration apparatus which can inject very small particles of gold or other dense material carrying genetic constructs coated on them into the living cells of animals. The animals not only live, but there is no visible bruising or bleeding at the site of the treatment. The method is particularly adaptable since the force of the particle injection in such a spark discharge apparatus is adjustable by adjustments to the voltage of the spark discharge.

  • Publication number: 20050076348
Abstract: An optical disc drive having a tray moved by the spindle motor is disclosed. The optical disc drive at least comprises a chassis, a tray, a spindle motor, a transmission chain and a coupling apparatus. The tray is mounted on the chassis for carrying a disc. The spindle motor is used for rotationally driving the disc. The transmission chain is used for moving the tray. The coupling apparatus selectively couples the transmission chain and the spindle motor. When the coupling apparatus is started, the transmission chain is coupled to the spindle motor, and the power generated from the spindle motor is transmitted to the tray through the transmission chain, so as to power the movement of tray for in-and-out of the optical disc drive. Thus, the invention does not require a conventional tray motor, so as to decrease the production cost.

  • Patent number: 6841510
Abstract: This invention is directed to a molecular sieve composition or a catalyst containing molecular sieve which has a relatively high residual silica index, preferably at least about 1.5. The molecular sieve or catalyst can be made by contacting a template-containing molecular sieve with a silicon containing material having an average kinetic diameter that is larger than the average pore diameter of the sieve or catalyst, and heating to leave residual silica at the sieve or catalyst surface. The molecular sieve or catalyst is particularly effective in making an olefin product from an oxygenate feedstock.

  • Patent number: 6760235
Abstract: Circuit and method for controlling circuitry in a power converter device during a soft-start process is provided. Synchronous rectifier control circuitry is adapted to gradually apply a gate drive signal derived from the main switch of the power converter device to a freewheeling synchronous rectifier of the switching circuitry during the soft-start process. The control circuitry gradually releases the amplitude or the pulse-width of the gate drive signal to the freewheeling synchronous rectifier to avoid a large duty ratio in the synchronous rectifier during start-up so that a negative current does not build up in the output inductor.
