  • Publication number: 20100187439
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to microcapsules that include a shell material and a core material. The core material of the microcapsules contains an environmentally sensitive luminescent colorant which exhibits characteristics of an emitted wavelength bandwidth, a peak intensity for emission and a time for luminescence decay, one or more of the characteristics capable of changing upon exposure to a given environment, and a luminescent standard which exhibits characteristics of an emitted wavelength bandwidth, a peak intensity for emission and a time for luminescence decay, one or more of the characteristics do not change upon exposure to said given environment.

  • Publication number: 20090269405
Abstract: The present invention includes compositions, methods, and systems for the development of a novel delivery vehicle that affects release of an agent upon the degradation of components of said vehicle by one or more enzymes. In one example, the system comprises components designed to degrade upon the presence of desired concentrations of proteinases, specifically matrix metalloproteinases, and subsequent release of the agent.

  • Patent number: 7459145
Abstract: The present invention provides multifunctional magnetic nanoparticle probe compositions for molecular imaging and monitoring, comprising a nucleic acid or polypeptide probe, a delivery ligand, and a magnetic nanoparticle having a biocompatible coating thereon. The probe compositions may further comprise a fluorescent or luminescent resonance energy transfer moiety. Also provided are compositions comprising two or more such multifunctional magnetic nanoparticle probes for molecular imaging or monitoring. In particular, the nucleic acid or polypeptide probes bind to a target and generate an interaction observable with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or optical imaging. The invention thereby provides detectable signals for rapid, specific, and sensitive detection of nucleic acids, polypeptides, and interactions thereof in vivo.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 27, 2003
Date of Patent: December 2, 2008
Assignees: Georgia Tech Research Corporation, Emory University
Inventors: Gang Bao, Shuming Nie, Nitin Nitin, Leslie LaConte
  • Patent number: 7297494
Abstract: Probes for detecting a target polynucleotide are provided. One aspect provides a molecular beacon probe set wherein the donor molecular beacon comprises a quantum dot and an acceptor molecular beacon comprises at least one reporter. The probes optionally comprise a protein transduction domain, targeting signal, or a combination thereof. Methods for detecting target polynucleotides using the disclosed probes are also provided.
