Patent number: 6008626Abstract: When a battery with series-connected lithium secondary cells is charged to a high voltage, the capacity of the battery is prevented from being irreversibly deteriorated. If a battery current detected by a current sensor is small and a battery voltage detected by a voltage sensor is of a level (4.0 V) higher than a rated voltage (3.6 V) of each of the lithium secondary cells, then a switch is closed to connect a resistor to the battery thereby to forcibly discharge the battery. The voltage across the battery is now lowered to prevent the battery from being left to stand at a high voltage, and hence the capacity of the battery is prevented from being irreversibly deteriorated.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1998Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Noboru Sato, Kazuhiro Araki, Naoki Maruno

Patent number: 6009078Abstract: In an ATM switch device having a plurality of input ports and a plurality of output ports, a port buffer is arranged for each of the output ports and is given a minimum guaranteed value which represents the minimum number of output cells sent to each output port even when traffic congestion takes place at the other output ports. A total queue monitoring buffer is also arranged to monitor a total number of output cells which is equal to a total sum of the minimum guaranteed values determined for the respective output ports and is counted up only when the counts of the port buffers exceed the minimum guaranteed values. With this structure, it is possible to detect traffic congestion all over the ATM switch device by the total queue monitoring buffer and to assure delivery of the output cells equal to the minimum guaranteed value. Each minimum guaranteed value may be determined for each service class and a multicast cell.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1997Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Noboru Sato

Patent number: 5819187Abstract: An initial output of a secondary battery on an electrically propelled vehicle is set to a value which is at least the sum of an established power output of a motor, an output reduction due to the memory effect of the secondary battery, and an allowable output reduction due to aging of the secondary battery. Since the established power output of the motor is determined taking into account the output reduction due to the memory effect and the output deterioration due to the aging, a minimum power output which the battery has as its capability is prevented from dropping below the established power output within the prescribed number t=n of times that the battery is charged and discharged, even when the output reduction and deterioration take place. Therefore, the driver, which is the user of the electrically propelled vehicle, does not feel a reduction in the power performance of the electrically propelled vehicle, i.e.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1996Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Noboru Sato, Yasuyuki Sando

Patent number: 5379397Abstract: An external memory control device which is capable of reducing the time required for processings such as write and read of data for the storage areas of an external memory device, such as a disk, is disclosed. The external memory control device includes a smallest sector number register and a largest sector number register which store the smallest and the largest sector numbers, respectively, within a processing range on a track that is designated by a processing request signal frokm a central processing unit, and a processing range detecting part which detects whether a sector number read from the designated track is within the processing range. In this external memory control device, if the sector number read from the designated track is within the processing range, the processings start from the next sector, so that waiting until the arrival of the smallest sector number is no longer needed, and the time required for processing per track can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1991Date of Patent: January 3, 1995Assignee: NEC CorporationInventors: Yutaka Ishikawa, Noboru Sato
