  • Patent number: 6097846
Abstract: Quantized DCT coefficients Rvu are inputted to a pre-processing unit, in which pre-processed DCT coefficients are obtained by multiplying a quantization/multiplying-term table and the quantized DCT coefficients. The quantization/multiplying-term table are generated by multiplying a multiplying-term corresponding to a part of a two dimensional IDCT and a quantization coefficient. The pre-processed DCT coefficients are inputted into first through fourth stages forming a post-processing unit. The pre-processed DCT coefficients are subjected to a process corresponding to a multiplication of a DCT coefficient in the first through fourth stages. By integrating output data of the each of the first through fourth stages, the remaining part of the two dimensional IDCT is performed, so that 64 pixel values forming an 8.times.8 matrix are obtained.

  • Patent number: 6049634
Abstract: The image compression device comprises a DCT processing unit, a statistical value processing unit, a quantization table generation unit, a quantization processing unit and a compression processing unit. In the DCT processing unit, luminance data and color difference data are subjected to a two-dimensional DCT to obtain DCT coefficients. In the statistical value processing unit, the DCT coefficients are subjected to a quantization and a dequantization so that a quantization error is calculated for every spatial frequency. In the quantization table generation unit, a quantization coefficient is obtained such that the quantization error becomes a minimum for every spatial frequency, so that a quantization table composed of the quantization coefficients is generated. The DCT coefficients are quantized using the quantization table in the quantization processing unit.

  • Patent number: 6047089
Abstract: The image compression and expansion device comprises a DCT processing unit in which original image data is subjected to a two-dimensional discrete cosine transformation to obtain DCT coefficients, a quantization process unit in which original image data is quantized by a first quantization table to obtain quantized DCT coefficients and a compression processing unit in which the quantized DCT coefficients are encoded to generate compressed image data. The compressed image data and the first quantization tables are recorded in a recording medium. A second quantization table is also stored in the recording medium. The image expansion device has a switch by which one of the first or second quantization table can be selected. An image is, thereby, reproduced from the compressed image data by using the selected type of quantization table.

  • Patent number: 6005982
Abstract: The image compression device comprises: a DCT processing unit in which original image data is subjected to a two-dimensional discrete cosine transformation to obtain DCT coefficients; and a quantization processing unit in which the DCT coefficients are quantized by a default quantization table to obtain quantized DCT coefficients. In an optimum quantization table generation unit, an optimum quantization table is generated in such a manner that a quantization error between each of the DCT coefficients and each of the corresponding dequantized DCT coefficients, which are obtained by dequantizing each of the quantized DCT coefficients using the optimum quantization table, becomes a minimum value. The quantized DCT coefficients are compressed to obtain compressed image data, which is stored in a recording medium, together with the default quantization table and the optimum quantization table.

  • Patent number: 5937098
Abstract: An image signal compressing device having a spatial frequency data amount setting unit and a quantization table generation unit. A set data amount is set in the spatial frequency data amount setting unit for each of a plurality of spatial frequencies based on a preset total data amount and a discrete cosine transformation (DCT) data statistical amount corresponding to quantized DCT coefficients using a quantization table in which all quantization coefficients are "1". An amount of encoded data obtained using a predetermined quantization coefficient is estimated in the quantization table generation unit. The predetermined quantization coefficient is adopted as a resultant quantization coefficient of the quantization table when the estimated data is not greater than the set data amount set in the spatial frequency data amount setting unit.

  • Patent number: 5886790
Abstract: A device for processing image data for inputted image data composed of blocks, each of which has 64 pixels values arranged in a matrix. Each of the pixel values is inputted to one of first through fourth stages forming a pre-processing unit. Each of the stages has 16 addition and subtraction units. Four pixels positioned at predetermined locations in the matrix are inputted to a predetermined addition and subtraction unit, so that the four pixels are subjected to addition and subtraction, and a part of a two-dimensional DCT. Thus, 64 pre-processed DCT coefficients are obtained. The pre-processed DCT coefficients are inputted to the post-processing unit, in which the remaining part of the two-dimensional DCT and the quantization are performed, so that the quantization DCT coefficients are obtained.

  • Patent number: 5805737
Abstract: An image signal compressing device has a quantization processing circuit in which DCT coefficients are quantized using a quantization table, and thus, quantized DCT coefficients are obtained. In a Huffman table selection unit, a Huffman table is generated in accordance with a Huffman code length table, which is determined in accordance with the minimum value of the quantization coefficients forming the quantization table. In a Huffman encoding process circuit, the quantized DCT coefficients are Huffman-encoded. The maximum value of the table number of the Huffman code length table is small, as the minimum value of the quantization coefficient is large.

  • Patent number: 5708509
Abstract: A digital data processing device has a DCT processing circuit in which image data is discrete cosine transformed, so that DCT coefficients can be obtained. The DCT coefficients are quantized using a quantization table in a quantization processing circuit to obtain quantized DCT coefficients. The quantized DCT coefficients are inversely quantized by the quantization table in an inverse quantization processing circuit to obtain inversely quantized coefficients. Optimum quantization coefficients are obtained by determining a minimum value for the sum of the squares of differences between the DCT coefficients and corresponding inversely quantized coefficients. The image data are then encoded using a Huffman encoding processing circuit. The encoded image data and the optimum quantization coefficients are then recorded to a recording medium.

  • Patent number: 5568194
Abstract: An exposure condition when an electronic flash is to be used, i.e., an aperture value and a shutter speed, is determined based on a photometry value. Under the exposure condition, a photographing operation is carried out without use of the electronic flash, and image data obtained by this photographing operation are stored in a first image memory. Further, another photographing operation is carried out with use of the electronic flash, and image data obtained by this photographing operation are stored in a second image memory. The image data stored in the first and second image memories are read out and the luminance signals of corresponding pixels are compared. When the difference between the luminance signals is large, the white balance adjustment is performed based on electronic flash light. When the difference between the luminance signals is small, the white balance adjustment is performed based on the ambient daylight.

  • Patent number: 5497246
Abstract: A DCT processing circuit outputs DCT coefficients based on image data stored in an image memory. The DCT coefficients are quantized by a quantization processing circuit, then input to a Huffman encoding processing circuit and an inverse quantization processing circuit. In the inverse quantization processing circuit, the DCT coefficients are reproduced. The differences between the reproduced DCT coefficients and the DCT coefficients output from the DCT processing circuit are determined as the quantized error data by subtractors. An error data synthesizing unit stores the error data in a fourth component of a JPEG format and inputs the error data to the Huffman encoding processing circuit. The output signals of the quantization processing circuit and the output signals of the error data synthesizing unit are Huffman encoded and recorded to an IC memory card.
