  • Patent number: 6137964
Abstract: A camera includes a film strip protection system disposed within a film cartridge compartment. A film strip is maintained by a film cartridge. The film strip and the film cartridge are movable within the film cartridge compartment. The camera further includes a film strip guide unit for guiding the film strip when it extends from the film cartridge. The film strip protection system is configured to restrict the movement of the film strip to prevent the film strip from being damaged by the film strip guide unit.

  • Patent number: 5991550
Abstract: A camera has a control device (MCU) for controlling magnetic recording of photographing data in units of photographing frames stored upon photographing onto the corresponding photographing frames on the film upon film rewinding. The camera has a photographable frame number detection device for detecting the number of photographable frames of the film from an information device provided to a film cartridge, and a film counter device for incrementing the count number every time one frame is photographed. Also, the camera has a film end detection device for detecting the film end, and a comparison device for comparing the number of photographable frames detected by the photographable frame number detection device with the count number of the film counter device when the film end detection device detects the film end. Furthermore, the camera has an alarm display device (DSP) for producing an alarm indicating errors in magnetic recording when the comparison device detects a non-coincidence between the two values.

  • Patent number: 5978605
Abstract: A film cartridge control device is provided for controlling a film cartridge provided with a data disk which rotates in association with a cartridge spool and indicates given information depending upon a position at which the data disk is stopped when a film is completely rewound in the film cartridge. The film cartridge control device includes a drive device that drives and rotates the cartridge spool, a control circuit that performs stop control for causing the drive device to stop the data disk at a predetermined position, and a storage circuit that stores stop control information that indicates that the stop control is being performed. The stop control information is set when the stop control is started and reset when the stop control is finished. The control circuit restarts the stop control after the cartridge spool is rotated by a predetermined amount by the drive device, if the stop control information is set in the storage circuit when the film cartridge control device is started.

  • Patent number: 5899589
Abstract: A camera which can record photographic information magnetically onto film while rewinding the film. The film has perforations provided in conjunction with each frame to be exposed and near an end in a rewinding direction of the frames. A sensor is used to detect passage start time and passage end time of these perforations. A recording time determining circuit is then used to determine a recording time per unit bit so that photographic information can be recorded in an area of the film associated with each frame of the film. This recording is based on a time difference between the passage start time and the passage end time as detected by the sensor. A magnetic recorder is used to record associated photographic information in the determined recording time onto a magnetic track of the film corresponding of an exposed frame.

  • Patent number: 5822624
Abstract: A camera capable of operating in a red-eye prevention mode. The camera has an electronic flash device which is activated by a drive circuit in synchronization with the exposure. The electronic flash device also serve as a pre-light-emission device capable of performing pre-light-emission for the purpose of preventing red-eye effect. When it is judged from the photographing condition is judged that red-eye effect may occur, a controller activates the electronic flash device to effect a pre-light-emission for reducing the size of pupils of eyes of a person to be photographed, before the main flashing which is executed in synchronization with the exposure.

  • Patent number: 5659822
Abstract: A display device for use in a camera includes a display having a plurality of display units for displaying character patterns. A memory stores character patterns for a first display and character patterns for a second display. The character patterns for the second display include matching pairs of half character patterns for display in adjacent display units to form a complete pattern. A control unit controls the operation of the display device and displays the stored character patterns on the display device. Duplicate character patterns and patterns containing numerals and decimals are stored in the memory. The control unit displays the character patterns on the display such that character pattern display appears uniformly spaced to user. In the method for displaying character patterns on the display device, the character patterns for a first display and half patterns for a second display are stored in memory. After a display has been selected the character patterns are displayed on a display device.

  • Patent number: 5634154
Abstract: A display and method for selecting a control mode or an operational parameter of a camera utilizes a display screen located laterally adjacent a plurality of switches on the camera. During a first display condition, a plurality of control mode symbols are displayed on the display screen, each control mode symbol appearing adjacent a corresponding switch. Indicators on the display screen indicate which of the plurality of switches may by operated to select each control mode. During a second display condition, at least one operational parameter is displayed on the display screen. The indicators indicate which of the switches correspond to each displayed opertional parameter, and which of the switches to operate to change the displayed operational parameter. The indicators may also indicate how the displayed operational parameter will change upon operation of each of the switches.

  • Patent number: 5627623
Abstract: A camera includes a memory, a display component, a selector, a controller and a shutter assembly. The memory stores a plurality of preset parameters used to control the camera during a photographic operation. The display component is coupled to the memory and displays a selection of parameters from the stored parameters. The selector is coupled to the display and allows a user to select at least one of the displayed parameters for the photographic operation. The controller is coupled to the memory, the display component and the selector. The controller controls the photographic operation based on either a parameter selected from a display when the selector is operated or a parameter automatically selected by the controller when the selector is not operated. The shutter assembly is coupled to the controller and executes the photographic operation based on the selected parameter.

  • Patent number: 5608491
Abstract: A camera is provided so that an inexperienced photographer is able to see the data easily regarding the necessary parameter for setting, and furthermore, the setting input operation of that parameter can be accomplished easily. The camera has a display that offers a selection of parameters and a display that verifies the parameter selected. The display showing the selected parameter is easily returned to the original selection display. Two operating modes are provided, a simple mode and an advanced mode. In the simple mode, an automatic preprogrammed mode may be selected at any time by continuously depressing a menu switch. In the advanced mode, continuous depression of the menu switch allows a user to automatically use a prestored favorite mode or the previously selected mode. Thus, operation is easy and selections are quickly executed.

  • Patent number: 5594524
Abstract: A camera includes a control unit and display assembly permitting the selective input of operating parameters by a user. A selection component permits the selective input of operating parameters displayed on a display device. Different operating parameters are displayed based upon the selected operating mode. In a first operating mode, the control unit displays a designated number of preset parameters on the display device and only permits the user to select from these designated preset parameters. In a second operating mode, the control unit permits the user to select from a plurality of parameters displayed on said display device. In addition, the control unit permits the user to display additional parameters on the display device. In the method for selectively inputting operating parameters into a camera, an operating mode for the camera is selected. The operating parameters are displayed on a display device based upon the selected operating mode.
