  • Publication number: 20180107651
Abstract: An electronic device is described which comprises a memory storing a font comprising a mapping from character codes to glyphs. The memory also stores character information comprising at least information about one or more unsupported character codes. A processor of the device processes text content comprising character codes using the font to create text output by converting the character codes into glyphs for display at a display associated with the electronic device. The processor is configured to capture the text output and detect whether the text output comprises at least one unsupported character code; and, in the case that at least one unsupported character code is detected, to output to a user of the device information about the unsupported character code obtained from the character information.

  • Patent number: 9454198
Abstract: A host device (10) may comprise an electrical power transmitting controller device (100), and an accessory device (20) may comprise an electrical power receiving controller device (200). After an identification and handshaking process to determine power requirements the power transmitting controller device (100) provides electrical power to the electrical power receiving controller device (200) to operate the accessory device. Coded communication data is transferred between the host device (10) and the accessory device (20) by a communication link. Power and communication are transferred over a single wire, such as an auxiliary pole (AUX) of a 3.5 mm jack interface (IO20).

  • Patent number: 8244896
Abstract: Collecting user preference information related to a playing media recording is accomplished by gathering descriptive information related to the playing media recording from a media player program presenting the playing media recording and determining if tags are embedded in the media recording and gathering descriptive information related to the playing media recording from the tags embedded in the playing media recording, if the tags exist. Further, determining if a table of contents exists on the media recording and gathering a table of contents for a collection containing the playing media recording by identifying the collection using a concatenation of track lengths identifier generation technique, the table of contents exists. Then assembling the descriptive information into a media recording information packet and sending the media recording information packet to a server computer, resulting in a collection of user preference information related to the playing media recording.

  • Publication number: 20060015129
Abstract: A lancet removal tool 26 comprises an elongate hollow body 28 having an opening 32 at one end. The opening 32 is bounded by resilient fingers 36 which can flex to expand the opening 32 to engage the body 16 of the lancet 14. Withdrawal of the tool 26 after engagement with the lancet body 16 causes the lancet 14 to be removed from the lancet device. Subsequently, the lancet 14 can be moved from the opening 32 into the interior of the tool 26. The tool 26 and the removal procedure enables lancets 14 to be removed without risk of injury or infection from contact with the contaminated needle 18 of the lancet 14.

  • Publication number: 20030079015
Abstract: A method for targeted market testing and promotion of a media recording for an media recording distribution entity is provided using a computer program plug-in and collecting information related to a playing media recording. Based upon the collected information, playing media recording preferences are stored and cross-referencing the in a user preference database. Computer users having a preference associated with the media recording are identified by analyzing the user preference database. Selected media recording are distributed to the identified users for playing. User reactions to the selected media recording are gathered, both actively and passively. The gathered user reaction information is analyzed and reported on.

  • Patent number: 6411723
Abstract: A flat panel rectangular or elliptical loudspeaker has one or more anisotropic diaphragms 14, 15, made of double skinned fluted polypropylene copolymer (core flute) or corrugated cardboards having a longitudinal bending strength greater than the transverse bending strength. The diaphragm is vibrated by a driver unit 16 which comprises a magnet 17 and voice coil 18. In this version the magnet 17 is mounted on the rear diaphragm 15 and the voice coil 18 is mounted on the front diaphragm 14. The two diaphragms 14, 15 are mounted at their edges to a frame 11 with the driver unit 16 mounted in the space enclosed by the frame and the diaphragms.

  • Publication number: 20010031052
Abstract: A loudspeaker system is disclosed for active noise reduction. The loudspeaker has a substantially flat or planar diaphragm which is vibrated by an appropriate driver to generate a cancelling signal to cancel noise in the vicinity of the loudspeaker. The loudspeaker includes an input transducer such as a microphone which detects the ambient noise. The microphone is preferably incorporated in the panel structure of the loudspeaker in such a way that the ambient noise information can be captured and presented to active noise cancelling circuitry. The circuitry then provides an appropriate signal to the loudspeaker driver so that the cancelling sound source is provided by the loudspeaker. The use of flat panel loudspeaker technology has been found to provide effective noise reduction and is very appropriate for circumstances in which noise reduction is desirable, for example in aircraft, bus or vehicle seats or telephone kiosks.

  • Patent number: 5587928
Abstract: A computer teleconferencing method and apparatus are provided which permits transmission of video image sources including both computer display images and other video images. The apparatus may include at a local teleconferencing site a personal computer having a video graphics adapter, a monitor and a digital telephone interface. The digital telephone interface is used to establish communications with a remote teleconferencing site. The apparatus may further include a video camera and a video capture system connected into the personal computer. The method may include steps of capturing snapshots of a computer display image, converting those snapshots to a digital television form, and compressing and transmitting the digital television signal to the remote teleconferencing site.
