  • Patent number: 6223600
Abstract: The invention is directed to an air spring arrangement having a device for making ultrasonic distance measurements. An ultrasonic sensor, which is built into an air spring (2) for making measurements, can be disturbed when high frequency sonic oscillations occur when filling and venting the air spring. An air supply line (8) is disposed between the air spring (2) and a source of compressed air (30). To prevent the above disturbing frequencies, the air supply line (8) includes an air connecting pipe stub (10) which is lined with a net-shaped layer (16) on its inner wall surface. The layer (16) is preferably a plastic mesh. The filaments (18) of the mesh-shaped layer (16) are slightly inclined to the longitudinal center axis (28) of the pipe stub (10).

  • Patent number: 6225497
Abstract: A process for rapidly mixing phosgene and an amine in the gas phase to produce the corresponding isocyanate. Micro-structure mixers are used for the rapid mixing. The educts emerge from the micro-structure mixer in the form of thin free jets which mix very rapidly by diffusion and/or turbulence. As a result, the mixing operation is accelerated substantially as compared with conventional reactors. The isocyanate yield is also increased.

  • Patent number: 6225398
Abstract: A method for formulating an aqueous dispersion of a polymer includes dissolving a polymer such as an acrylic polyol in a solvent to form a polymer solution. A surfactant is added to the polymer solution, and water is then added with mixing sufficient to dispersed the polymer in the water. The resulting aqueous dispersion can be mixed with a water dispersible polyisocyanate to produce coating materials which can be cured to form tough films and coatings.

  • Patent number: 6224751
Abstract: A water purifying device that has a collecting jug for purified water, in which a funnel with a filter cartridge filled with purifying medium is fitted in a removable manner, the jug can be closed at the top with a lid. Grips for removing the lid are arranged on the lid, and an indicator is provided for indicating the exhaustion of the purifying medium. The indicator is inexpensive, easily readable and reliably functioning to show the state of exhaustion of the purifying medium. The indicator is secured in an aperture in the top surface of the lid, an indicator panel of which can be seen externally from above and which, by an electronic, battery driven circuit, shows only the respective state of time elapsed, without cooperating with separate signaling.

  • Publication number: 20010000423
Abstract: A system includes a recharging device to which an electronic hand-held device powered by a battery can be connected. A controller associated with the recharging device performs a method of internal-device battery cell detection, i.e., distinguishing between NiMH/NiCd and other types of cells in the battery, before recharging the battery. A method determines the cell chemistry without any modifications to the battery and/or without any user input by performing tests on the battery. The tests include a Battery Voltage Test, an Internal Resistance Test, and a Timed Voltage Test. The testing is performed through a combination of hardware and software in the charging cradle. By performing the tests in a preferred order, detected alkaline, lithium, rechargeable alkaline, and carbon-zinc cells, damaged NiMH and NiCd cells, and close to fully charged NiMH and NiCd cells cause termination of a recharging operation before damage to the device or battery is sustained—without requiring input from a user.

  • Patent number: 6220715
Abstract: In a method and device for removing light by absorption, undesired light is guided by a light entrance aperture into a hollow body having a light-absorbing inner surface. The light which is directed into the hollow body falls onto the reflection surface of a reflector. The reflection surface is configured and positioned in such a way that the light which is reflected back from the reflection surface is not reflected in itself, that only a minor amount of said light does not reach the outside as scattered light via the light entrance aperture and that a substantial amount of the light reaches the inside of the hollow body where it is absorbed. The invention finds particular use in an electronic recording device for point and line elimination of a recording material with a laser beam, wherein an undesired secondary beam is absorbed according to the inventive method in order to avoid disturbing retroreflections.
