  • Publication number: 20110166297
Abstract: Molecularly imprinted smart polymers (MISPs) are provided herein, as well as novel monomers for preparing MISPs, and processes for preparing MISPs. The MISPs can be used applications such as, for example, detecting/absorbing or isolating biological and non-biological agents. The MISPs described herein comprise responsive monomeric units which undergo a physico-chemical change (e.g., a bond formation or cleavage) in response to an external change, such that the MISP selectively binds to a target molecule and releases a bound target molecule in response to the external change.

  • Publication number: 20070244469
Abstract: The present invention is a miniature medication pump. With a small lightweight mechanism, operating on low energy consumption, the medication pump device is a highly reliable controlled portable device of drug infusion to patients. The proposed device is comprised of a piezoelectric actuator, operated by a programmable logic means, which applies force on a lever. The lever is situated between two unidirectional stoppers and transfers the force of the actuator onto the front stopper. The front stopper has a grip on the plunger stem and it therefore pushes it in the direction of the syringe and releases controlled amounts of medication to the body of the patient. The invention also include monitoring mechanisms which enable constant and accurate measurements of the amount of medication which is released from the device in actuality. The user of the pump is alerted about detected deviations from the designated flow of the medication.

  • Publication number: 20060081391
Abstract: Disclosed is a shield for covering electrical outlets and switches, including their plates, during painting or other wall surface finishing process, such as plastering, priming, texturing, stucco coating, etc. The shield includes a shield encasement and a handle, which may be threadably coupled to an outer surface of the encasement. The shield may come in various sizes and shapes, based on the size and shape of the plates to be covered. The threadable handle allows the shield to be held in place with one hand, so that it covers the switch or outlet, including plate, while applying paint or other finish to the wall with the other hand, using any convenient technique such as spraying or brushing.

  • Publication number: 20050177111
Abstract: A micro-pump that supplies medication from a reservoir to a patient through a flexible tube is disclosed. The pump, which is especially suitable but not confined to delivering insulin to diabetic patients, is small and light enough to be attached to the body using adhesive plaster or to be strapped to the body in any other manner. In the preferred embodiment the pump mechanism comprises a lead screw, a weak force rotating element, an actuator, and a high force holding element. The device also includes a processing circuitry for controlling and monitoring the drive mechanism, a force sensor to measure medication pressure which generates indicative signals to the processing circuitry, a sensor for tracking the position of the syringe plunger, and a remote control unit.

  • Patent number: 6655321
Abstract: An adapter for converting a foldable pet shelter into a self encased pet crate. The crate adapter has an end panel and a bottom panel, both of which may be joined together. The end panel is removably attachable to the foldable pet shelter along the back edge perimeter of the left side, right side, and top panels of the foldable pet shelter, while the bottom panel is removably attachable to the foldable pet shelter along the bottom edge perimeter of the left side, right side, and front side panels of the foldable pet shelter. Component lock elements positioned along various locations on the end and bottom panels of the adapter provide elements for removably securing the adapter to the foldable pet shelter, thereby converting the joined components into a self encased pet crate having a top panel, a right side panel, a left side panel, a front panel, a back panel, and a bottom panel.

  • Patent number: 6203168
Abstract: A process for using an illuminating box for facilitating the level installation of tiles. The illuminating box has a top and four sides which are opaque. The bottom is light transmitting and lies in a single plane so that when a portion of the bottom is placed on one tile and the box is allowed to overhang an adjacent tile, light will escape on any area which lies below the bottom plane of the illuminating box. The process includes the steps of laying at least two tiles on a substrate and turning on the light in the illuminating box. Next, the box is placed on one tile so that its bottom edges extend over an adjacent tile. Next, the resulting light pattern on top of the floor tiles is observed to illuminate any lack of flatness.
