  • Patent number: 8094658
Abstract: A system and method for providing premium transport in a DOCSIS-compliant cable network. An edge server in a DOCSIS-compliant cable network maintains a list of preferred content providers (PCPs). For each PCP, the PCP list comprises matching criteria. The edge server monitors the header of incoming packets for the matching criteria. A packet that matches the matching criteria is modified by the edge server causing the packet to be associated with a “premium” downstream service flow. Packets sent in response to a “preferred” packet are parsed by a cable modem and routed upstream according to a “premium” upstream service flow.

  • Publication number: 20120002558
Abstract: Device and methods determine timing parameters and associated timing actions from timing messages in communication packets. The timing messages may be encapsulated with plurality of communication protocols. An example timing message may be an IEEE 1588 timing message encapsulated in an Internet protocol packet encapsulated in an Ethernet protocol packet. The protocols are matched in classifier blocks by comparing portions of the packet to bit values or ranges of values. Operation of other than the first classifier block depends on results of matching in the preceding block by using offset values passed between blocks that indicate starting points for the matching. The final classifier block matches values in timing messages to identify timing parameters and associated timing actions in the message.

  • Publication number: 20120000486
Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning an emitter electrode in electrohydrodynamic fluid accelerator and precipitator devices via movement of a cleaning device including complementary contoured cleaning surfaces positioned to frictionally engage and elastically deform the emitter electrode. The opposing cleaning surfaces laterally distort an otherwise linear longitudinal extent of the electrode under tension. The opposing cleaning surfaces are subject to wear, but maintain frictional engagement despite wear depths that exceed a radius of the electrode due at least in part to the at least partially complementary surface contours engaging the electrode under tension. The cleaning device causes respective cleaning surfaces to travel along a longitudinal extent of the emitter electrode to remove detrimental material and optionally to condition the electrode to at least partially mitigate ozone, erosion, corrosion, oxidation, or dendrite formation on the electrode.

  • Publication number: 20120004619
Abstract: A needle protective device is provided for reducing inadvertent needle sticks. The needle protective device includes a tubular member that is attached to a base cap. A spring and a shield are positioned in the base cap to selectively cover an access hole of the chamber so that after use of the needle, a needle tip and blood-borne pathogens on the needle are encased within the base cap. The device is selectively pre-activated and is configured such that when activated, the needle tip is contained in the base cap and the device becomes un-usable.

  • Publication number: 20110320284
Abstract: A social network marketplace may monitor communications between an advertiser and a consumer by generating signatures for communications and tracking those signatures through social network communications until a sale may be consummated. The marketplace may monitor the transactions to determine a user's influence on other users. A user's influence may also be determined or supplemented by monitoring formal or informal social interactions performed on a computer when those communications are able to be monitored. The influence information may be used to select outbound advertisements to those users who may benefit from an advertisement, as well as to filter inbound advertisements to suit a user or a user's situation.

  • Patent number: 8083895
Abstract: An air stabilization system employing two parallel, opposite facing Coanda nozzles, that are positioned adjacent a flexible moving web, with each nozzle exhausting gas at opposite directions, subjects the moving web to opposing forces effective to stabilize the web. Each nozzle includes an elongated slot that is parallel to the path of the moving web. The two Coanda nozzles serve as separate points along the machine direction for controlling the height of the moving web. By modulating the flow, pressure and other parameters of gases exiting the Coanda nozzles, the shape of the moving web between the nozzles can be manipulated to present a planar contour for measurements. The air stabilization system can be incorporated into a scanner head to measure the caliper of paper, plastic, and other flexible web products.

  • Publication number: 20110314377
Abstract: A method, performed by software executing on the processor of a portable music playback device, that automatically files tracks according to hierarchical structure of categories to organize tracks in a logical order. A user interface is utilized to change the hierarchy, view track names, and select tracks for playback or other operations. The user interface uses an overlapping hierarchy of categories. A song title can be accessed in multiple different ways by starting with different categories. A preferred embodiment of the invention uses the top-level categories “Albums”, “Artists”, “Genres” (or styles), and “Play Lists”. Within the Albums category are names of different albums of songs stored in the device. Within each album are the album tracks, or songs, associated with that album. Navigation is performed by presenting a sequence of display screens for each level of the hierarchy.
