With a video camera wherein with regard to H.264/AVC for example, which is a coding method arranged to encode or decode data, a codec class arranged to classify the performance of a codec configured to encode or decode data, and a codec level serving as a group of said one or more codec classes whose upper compatibility is ensured, are based on stipulated specifications, data is encoded into, for example, coded data of a codec class #2, for example, within a codec level AVC_A by H.264/AVC. The coded data is recorded in a recording medium, for example, as a file “AVCA0001.MP4” whose file name represents the codec level AVC_A of the coded data.

Abstract: An imaging device detects a face of a subject from an image in response to inputting of the image containing the subject, and generates face data related to the face. The imaging device generates face data management information managing the face data and controls recording of the input image, the generated face data and the face data management information on a recording unit with the input image mapped to the face data and the face data management information. The face data contains a plurality information components recorded in a predetermined recording order. The face data management information, in a data structure responsive to the recording order of the information components of the face data, contains a train of consecutively assigned bits. The information components are assigned predetermined flags in the recording order. Each flag represents the presence or absence of the information component corresponding to the flag in the face data.

Abstract: The present invention makes it possible to search desired images more quickly and surely. A keyword searching part 121 searches keywords set to image data from a recording medium on the basis of a keyword. An imaging information searching part 122 searches imaging information set to image data from the recording medium on the basis of imaging information. On the basis of a keyword or imaging information searched by the keyword searching part 121 or the imaging information searching part 122, a similar information-set image searching section 114 searches similar image data as image data having a high correlation to the searched keyword or imaging information. A keyword extracting section 115 extracts keywords from the similar image data. A keyword setting section 116 sets the extracted keywords to image data searched by the keyword searching part 121 or the imaging information searching part 122. Thus, desired images can be searched more quickly and surely.

Abstract: An imaging apparatus and an imaging method supply an optimum amount of image data to another apparatus. When a PDA has a maximum transfer rate of 1.5 Mbps, a mobile phone determines that the maximum speed of communication with the PDA is low, reduces the amount of moving image data captured by a CCD of the mobile phone accordingly, and supplies the captured moving image data to the PDA. The PDA therefore displays a low-quality moving image on its display unit. When the PDA has a maximum transfer rate of 480 Mbps, the CPU of the mobile phone leaves unchanged the amount of moving picture data captured by the CCD and supplies the captured moving image data to the PDA. The PDA then displays a high-quality moving image on its display unit. The foregoing may be advantageously applied to digital cameras.
