  • Patent number: 7986438
Abstract: In a system for converting an input image signal input from an image input device into an output image signal to be output by an image output device, an image compression unit converts a spectral image input via an image input unit into R, G, and B data, obtains principal component data by making principal component analysis of the spectral image, and stores these data in an input image storage unit. When the principal component data and R, G, and B data are loaded and stored in an output image storage unit, a spectral reflectance reconstruction unit reconstructs the spectral reflectance of each pixel using these data. A printer model determines the dot quantities of inks used to record each pixel in an image output device on the basis of the calculated spectral reflectance, and generates an output image signal for the image output device. In this way, image data which allows to estimate the spectral reflectance characteristics of an input image is provided, and faithful color reproduction can be realized.

  • Patent number: 7983479
Abstract: It is desired to adopt gamut mapping using a color appearance space in the processing system of an ICC profile. Upon generating an LUT complying with the ICC profile format, a grid point outside of the visible region on the CIELAB space is moved into the visible region. The Lab values of the grid point are converted into XYZ values, which undergo color appearance conversion to acquire color appearance values. The acquired color appearance values are mapped on the color gamut of a predetermined device.

  • Patent number: 7965427
Abstract: When a whole input gamut is mapped into an output gamut, even a gamut range which is not used in practice is mapped into the output gamut. This causes a saturation drop or tone loss. In order to solve this problem, image data obtained by the first device is input and an obtaining condition of the input image data is obtained. On the basis of the obtaining condition, the first gamut information of the input image data is obtained from a table showing the relationship between the output gamut of the first device and the obtaining condition. On the basis of the first gamut information and the second gamut information which indicates the gamut of the second device, the input image data is mapped into the gamut indicated by the second gamut information.

  • Patent number: 7667845
Abstract: A spectral distribution error evaluation apparatus is used to evaluate precision of color matching between evaluation and target colors. A first weighting function generator generates a first weighting function on the basis of color matching functions, wavelength characteristics which are independent of a light source of the target color, and visual characteristics which depend on wavelengths. A second weighting function generator generates a second weighting function on the basis of light source information of selected light sources. A difference calculator calculates error values between the evaluation and target colors for respective frequencies. An evaluation value calculator applies the first and second weighting functions to the error values, and calculates the sum total of the error values as an evaluation value.
