  • Publication number: 20180160362
Abstract: Various embodiments include methods performed on a wireless communication device for facilitating cell global identity (CGI) measurements when a call is underway using a first wireless communication technology (e.g., LTE) and the CGI measurement is to be conducted on a cell supporting a second wireless communication technology. A processor of the wireless communication device may perform power scans of a plurality of neighboring cells supporting the second communication technology, and select one of the plurality of neighboring cells based on the power scans. The processor may conduct a CGI measurement of the selected neighboring cell, and report measurement results to the wireless network. The processor of the wireless communication device may store a history of CGI measurement and/or camping on cells of the second communication technology, and use the stored information when power scans of neighboring cells yield similar results.

  • Patent number: 9959746
Abstract: In an embodiment, a user equipment (UE) determines an emergency health condition for a user that is defined based on a set of health-related parameters crossing a corresponding set of thresholds. The UE receives health data from a set of health monitoring sensors that are each configured to monitor one or more health-related parameters of the user. The UE detects, while a restricted mode restricting access to a set of communicative functions of the UE is active, that the emergency health condition for the user exists based on the received health data indicating that the set of health-related parameters have crossed the corresponding set of thresholds. The UE disables the restricted mode in response to the detecting. The UE conveys, using one or more communicative functions from the set of communicative functions that are made available by the disabling of the restricted mode, an alarm related to the detected emergency health condition for the user.

  • Patent number: 9825840
Abstract: A method for improving device-to-device (D2D) communication in an LTE-Direct communication system includes exchanging communication information between a first user equipment (UE) and a second UE over an LTE-Direct connection with a first network resource of a first set of network resources allocated to the first and second UEs by a base station for the LTE-Direct connection. The method also includes determining, by the first UE, whether a first link quality of the LTE-Direct connection with the first network resource is below a link quality threshold. If so, the LTE-Direct connection is shifted to another network resource of the first set of network resources until an LTE-Direct connection is established that has a link quality that is equal to or greater than the link quality threshold.

  • Publication number: 20170295556
Abstract: A UE registers with a paging hub to a message forwarding service that is configured to forward information from messages wirelessly transmitted by two or more RANs associated with different RAT-types to the UE over a local wireless network that is separate from the two or more RANs. The UE refrains from monitoring a set of downlink wireless channels used by the two or more RANs while the paging hub monitors the set of downlink wireless channels on behalf of the UE. The paging hub detects a signaling message that is targeted to the UE by a given RAN, and forwards a message including information derived from the signaling message to the local wireless network for transmission to the UE. The UE receives the forwarded message and selectively communicates with the given RAN in response to the received message.

  • Patent number: 9730006
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that may selectively determine network connection information in a wearable wireless device. A wearable wireless device may communicate with a first wireless device associated with a wireless network, estimate a separation distance to the first wireless device, and compare a first network identifier of the wearable wireless device with a second network identifier of the first wireless device. The wearable wireless device may then selectively receive, from the first wireless device, network connection information for the wireless network based, at least in part, on the comparison and the separation distance.
