  • Patent number: 9655039
Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to dynamic cell reselection to improve device-to-device (D2D) communications where two or more D2D peers are camped onto different cells and one or more D2D peers are located in an overlap region between the cells. For example, in various embodiments, the D2D peers may exchange one or more communication parameters over the (inter-cell) D2D connection and detect that the D2D peers are camped on different base stations (i.e., attached to different cells) based on the exchanged communication parameters. The D2D peer(s) located in the cell overlap region may then obtain measurements on the neighbor cell and a forced cell reselection may be triggered at the appropriate D2D peer(s) located in the cell overlap region such that the D2D peers are camped on the same base station, thereby converting the inter-cell D2D connection into an intra-cell D2D connection that can be more easily maintained.

  • Patent number: 9591685
Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to synchronizing application account data using out-of-band device-to-device (D2D) communication between peer wireless devices. More particularly, a first device may generate a local unique expression that includes a name, one or more user credentials, and a last update time associated with an application registered for a D2D-based application synchronization service. In response to detecting one or more external unique expressions from one or more peer devices in proximity that match the name and the user credentials associated with the registered application, the first device may then identify, among the one or more peer devices, an update device associated with an external unique expression having a last update time more recent than the last update time associated with the local unique expression and request an update to synchronize the application account data associated with the registered application from the update device over an out-of-band D2D connection.

  • Publication number: 20170048854
Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for enabling improved scheduling of non-time bounded tasks across multiple subscriptions of a multi-subscription wireless communication device. A processor of the wireless communication device may determine whether the frequency utilized by a radio access technology (RAT) of a first subscription interferes with one or more frequencies utilized by RATs of other subscriptions. In response to determining that two or more of the subscriptions are non-interfering (i.e., RAT frequencies do not interfere) the processor may co-mingle non-time bounded tasks with time bounded tasks of the same subscription to produce consolidated task blocks. The task blocks may be temporal chunks of an execution queue in which tasks are scheduled continuously without interim idle periods. The processor may execute the first task block of each execution queue concurrently across subscriptions to reduce the amount of time that only a portion of the subscriptions are active or dormant.

  • Publication number: 20170019904
Abstract: A method for improving device-to-device (D2D) communication in an LTE-Direct communication system includes exchanging communication information between a first user equipment (UE) and a second UE over an LTE-Direct connection with a first network resource of a first set of network resources allocated to the first and second UEs by a base station for the LTE-Direct connection. The method also includes determining, by the first UE, whether a first link quality of the LTE-Direct connection with the first network resource is below a link quality threshold. If so, the LTE-Direct connection is shifted to another network resource of the first set of network resources until an LTE-Direct connection is established that has a link quality that is equal to or greater than the link quality threshold.

  • Publication number: 20160345323
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide a system, method, and apparatus for implementing an intelligent Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) procedure that avoids unnecessary scanning of an unlicensed or shared spectrum, and hence offers efficient power utilization for user equipments (UEs). In one aspect, one or more UEs may periodically identify at least one of a current operating frequency, a mode of operation, and the public land mobile network (PLMN) associated with the UE to determine whether the UE is operating in a DFS channel. Based on the above-identified factors, the UE may determine whether the UE is actively scheduling uplink data transmission on the DFS channel, and thus dynamically enable or disable the DFS scanning procedures on the unlicensed or shared spectrum.

  • Patent number: 9480071
Abstract: Various embodiments implemented on a mobile communication device provide methods for skipping power measurements of frequency bands included in a list of frequency bands received from a first subscription's network to conserve power and to increase the likelihood of avoiding a coexistence event between a first subscription and a second subscription. Specifically, a processor of the mobile communication device may order the list of frequency bands such that non-interfering frequency bands are ordered before interfering frequency bands. The processor may then take power measurements of frequency bands in the list, in order, until the processor determines that a power measurement has satisfied a minimum power threshold. In response to such a determination, the device processor may report the power measurement that satisfies the minimum power threshold to the first subscription's network and may not take any more power measurements of the remaining frequency bands in the list.

  • Patent number: 9461684
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are presented for acquiring a wireless system by a multi-subscriber identity module (SIM) user equipment (UE). For example, an example method for acquiring a wireless system is presented that includes conducting, by a first subscription corresponding to a first SIM of the UE, a call using a shared radio resource of the UE. In addition, the example method may include predicting, upon completion of the call, a pilot timing error and a frequency error associated with a pilot signal of a network associated with a second subscription corresponding to a second SIM of the UE. In addition, the example method may include attempting to acquire the pilot signal based on the pilot timing error and the frequency error. As such, the example method may allow the multi-SIM UE to more quickly acquire a wireless system relative to legacy methods. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

  • Patent number: 9445276
Abstract: Various embodiments leverage the typical manner in which a RAT selects a supported frequency band listed in its acquisition database and the standard communications with its network indicating the supported frequency bands to avoid potential coexistence events with one or more other RATs. In particular, various embodiments include methods for avoiding band interference between RATs operating on a multi-SIM communication device by identifying the frequency bands available to each of the RATs, comparing the identified frequency bands to determine whether any RAT's frequency bands will interfere with one or more other RAT's frequency bands, and in response to determining that there is a possibility of frequency band interference, removing those interfering frequency bands from that RAT's acquisition database. As a result, during standard communications, that RAT will report to its network that it supports only non-interfering frequency bands.
