Patent number: 9720546Abstract: A force sensitive surface measures force or pressure applied to the surface. The surface may also detect the touch position. The force sensing surface is calibrated with a stylus having a force measuring element. The stylus measures the force information from force applied on the surface and sends the information to the device with the force sensing surface. The device detects the same force and calibrates the force sensing element according to the information received from the stylus. The device may also detect the position of the touch. As the force information obtained from different portions of the surface may be different, the calibration may be repeated for multiple positions on the force and touch sensitive surface. The calibration may also be used to calibrate a position sensing feature on a force sensing surface having multiple force sensors.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2015Date of Patent: August 1, 2017Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Lauri Jääskelä, Henri Autio, Pasi Kemppinen, Petri Jarske, Matti Pellikka

Publication number: 20170068348Abstract: A display with a force sensing function has two layers of a reference voltage, for example a ground voltage. One reference voltage layer is inside the display stack. A sensor layer between the two reference voltage layers senses capacitance from the distance between the sensor layer and the reference voltage layer. The capacitance changes according to the force applied to the display, as the display moves slightly when the user presses the display. A thin foam layer allows the distance between the sensor layer and the reference voltage to change. This change is reflected in the measured capacitance. Multiple force sensors also enable detection of the position of the touch.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 8, 2015Publication date: March 9, 2017Inventors: Pasi Kemppinen, Matti Pellikka

Patent number: 8385993Abstract: In an embodiment a resilient lever is placed between the top body and the bottom body of a flip top electronic apparatus. The axles of the lever are located so that a front edge of the top body stays near the bottom body during the movement of the top body over a keypad on the bottom body. An end of the top body jumps or slides over the bottom body, e.g. keyboard. The resilient feature gives the locking effect in the open and closed positions of the apparatus. There can be one, two or more resilient members. In an embodiment a rail is positioned to the bottom body. A resilient follower is attached to the top body. The resilient follower is also attached to the rail. Thereby these elements bound top body's front edge to the bottom body. The first body portion can be a top body having a display chassis, for example a lid. The second body portion can be a bottom body having a keyboard or a keypad, for example the second body portion can be an engine block having a chassis.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2006Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Juha K. Publication number: 20110113906Abstract: A device comprising a body part (101) and a functional module (102) is presented. The functional module is situated at least partly in a cavity (121) of the body part and is connected to the body part with a supporting mechanism (103, 104, 105, 106) arranged to allow the functional module to be turned relative to the body part. The supporting mechanism is arranged to move an axis of rotation of the functional module in parallel with a surface of the cavity as a response to turning the functional module relative to the body part. Due to the fact that the axis of rotation is moved when turning the functional module, the free space that is needed around the functional module can be minimized. The device can be e.g. a mobile phone and the functional module can be e.g. a camera element of the mobile phone.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 18, 2008Publication date: May 19, 2011Applicant: NOKIA CORPORATIONInventor: Pasi Kemppinen

Publication number: 20110007469Abstract: The invention relates to a slider actuator (203) suitable for controlling relative movement between sliding elements (201, 202). The slider actuator includes two or more contact parts (209, 210) capable of forming mechanical contacts with one of the sliding elements in at least two locations of that sliding element (201). Each of the at least two contact parts is capable of supporting the sliding element in mutually opposite directions. The fact that the slider actuator includes two or more contact parts that are capable of supporting a sliding element in mutually opposite directions in different locations of the sliding element makes possible, for example, to extend the maximum range of movement of the sliding elements and/or to in crease a number of stable mutual positions of the sliding elements.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2008Publication date: January 13, 2011Applicant: NOKIA CORPORATIONInventor: Pasi Kemppinen

Publication number: 20100328856Abstract: A mobile electronic device comprises a housing with a first housing part, a second housing part and a third housing part. The first and second housing parts are mounted for a slidable movement relative to one another, whilst the third housing part is mounted for pivotable movement relative to the second housing part. It is suggested that FIG. 4 is published with the abstract.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 23, 2007Publication date: December 30, 2010Applicant: NOKIA CORPORATIONInventors: Mika Ojanto, Kimmo Komppa, Pasi Kemppinen

Publication number: 20100267430Abstract: Various embodiments of the invention disclose an apparatus, for example a mobile phone, comprising a first part and a second part. The first part is slidably and resiliently connected to said second part. The apparatus comprises further a third part, which can be a shuttle part or a cradle part, which third part is advantageously configured to enable the semi-automatic or telescopic opening of the apparatus. Thus relatively small movement of the third part enables generally larger movement of the first part, thereby opening or closing the apparatus semi-automatically. Furthermore the visible and usable portion of the first part of the apparatus can increase and decrease by the control of the relative small movement of the shuttle. The first part can be a sliding cover of the apparatus and the second part a body of the apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2007Publication date: October 21, 2010Applicant: NOKIA CORPORATIONInventor: Pasi Kemppinen

Patent number: 7764977Abstract: A mobile device powered by a battery is provided having a guard member for preventing a memory card from being removed from the mobile device when a battery is inserted in the device. The battery is removably received in a battery compartment and the memory card is removably received in memory card. The memory card slot has an opening in the casing of the mobile device and the guard member is movable from a first position in which it at least partly blocks the opening to a second position in which the memory card can be removed from the memory card slot. The battery compartment for the battery is arranged such that when the battery is inserted, the guard member is moved to the first position.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2006Date of Patent: July 27, 2010Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventor: Pasi Kemppinen
