Patent number: 10156202Abstract: A barrier ring for a cylinder assembly for an opposed-piston engine fits into a groove fashioned into a portion of the cylinder liner that is adjacent to the top dead center location of the end surfaces of the pistons, in a volume of the cylinder liner that defines the combustion chamber. The barrier ring and groove are part of a barrier assembly that prevents heat generated during combustion from reaching the outer wall of the cylinder assembly, reducing the need for conventional cooling systems and increasing the amount of heat retained in the combustion chamber. The barrier assembly allows for increased engine efficiency because of the combustion heat retained in the combustion chamber, as well as a reduction in the overall size of the engine because of the reduction in engine cooling needed.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2016Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Assignee: ACHATES POWER, INC.Inventors: Bryant A. Wagner, Patrick R. Lee, Abhishek Sahasrabudhe

Patent number: 8807112Abstract: A piston rolling thrust bearing construction is constituted of a pair of bearing plates with opposing faces disposed in a spaced alignment with a rolling ball assembly positioned between the opposing faces to support relative movement between the bearing plates. The piston rolling thrust bearing is mounted to the open end of the skirt of a piston disposed in a cylinder to compensate for non-axial motion relative to the cylinder axis due to the articulating motions of connecting elements or any structural misalignments within an engine drive train assembly.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2011Date of Patent: August 19, 2014Assignee: Achates Power, Inc.Inventors: James U. Patent number: 8770982Abstract: A self-contained demonstration that demonstrates the functionality of an application module. More specifically, the functionality of the application module with respect to information within an external information source that is located remotely from the application module may be demonstrated. In some instances, the components of a system providing the self-contained demonstration may be installed and executed on a single device, while the external information source would be located remotely and externally from the single device. In order to demonstrate the functionality of the application module, the self-contained demonstration may enable the application module to interact with a local information source in substantially the same manner as the application module would interact with an external information source. The local information source may be installed locally on the single device, and may be a scaled-down version of an external information source.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2006Date of Patent: July 8, 2014Assignee: CA, Inc.Inventors: Patrick R. Lee, Bruce A. Defrang, Darrell J. Kooy

Patent number: 8499276Abstract: The invention provides systems and methods for developing multi-platform graphical user interface (GUI) for a target software application. In invention includes assessing one or more functional requirements of the target software application and defining a functional specification for the multi-platform GUI using the assessed functional requirements. The functional specification is used to develop source code for the graphical user interface. An abstraction framework that evaluates functions of the GUI source code and provides instruction to perform the functions in each of the plurality of operating environments is then developed and used as an intermediary between the GUI source code and each of the plurality of operating environments.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2006Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: CA, Inc.Inventors: Darrell J. Patent number: 8286596Abstract: In a two-cycle, opposed-piston internal combustion engine, opposed pistons disposed in a cylinder are coupled to a pair of side-mounted crankshafts by connecting rods that are subject to substantially tensile forces acting between the pistons and the crankshafts. This geometry reduces or eliminates side forces between the pistons and the bore of the cylinder. The cylinder and the pistons are independently cooled to reduce cylindrical deformation caused by thermal expansion during engine operation.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2011Date of Patent: October 16, 2012Assignee: Achates Power, Inc.Inventors: James U.
