  • Publication number: 20220141731
Abstract: A wireless device suspends a connection with a first access network and enters an inactive state. While the connection with the first access network is suspended and the wireless device is in the inactive state, the wireless device camps in a specific area of a second wireless communication network that is included in a notification area within which the wireless device is allowed to move without notifying either the second wireless communication network or a first wireless communication network that includes the first access network. Upon camping in the specific area, the wireless device starts a timer. Responsive to expiry of the timer, the wireless device switches from the inactive state to an idle state and/or transmits to the second access network signaling indicating that the wireless device is in the specific area or that the wireless device requests a connection to the second access network.

  • Patent number: 11272415
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for handover of a UE (100) from a source node (20, 30) connected to a first core network (50, 60) to a target node (20, 30) connected to a second core network (50, 60). The UE (100) receives, from the source node (20, 30), a mobility command including an indication of the radio access technology (RAT) used by the target node (20, 30) and a message container containing configuration information for the target node (20, 30). The UE (100) further determines, based on the indication of the RAT used by the target node (20, 30), whether to treat the handover as an inter-RAT handover or as an intra-RAT handover with a core network change, and performs a radio resource control procedure for one of an inter-RAT handover or an intra-RAT handover with a core network change based on the determination.

  • Publication number: 20220014921
Abstract: Embodiments include methods, performed by a user equipment (UE), for reporting failures that occur during communication with a cell associated with a first network node. Such methods include transmitting a request message to the first network node and, in some embodiments, initiating a timer upon transmitting the request message. The request message can be associated with resuming a suspended connection between the UE and a radio access network (RAN), or with re-establishing a connection between the UE and the RAN after occurrence of a failure. Such methods include, performing integrity protection (IP) verification of a response to the request message (e.g., based on receiving the response before timer expiration). Such methods include, in response to failure of the IP verification, sending a failure report, to a second network node, including first information related to the IP verification failure. Other embodiments include complementary methods performed by the second network node.

  • Publication number: 20220014985
Abstract: Systems, methods and apparatus are disclosed for handling conditional handover configurations by wireless devices and network nodes. An example method performed by a wireless device includes receiving and storing one or more conditional handover configurations associated with a target cell candidate. The wireless device transitions from a connected state to a sleeping state, where the transition includes discarding the conditional handover configurations. The wireless device releases resources associated with the conditional handover configurations and performs clean up actions relating to conditional handover. An example method performed by a network node includes providing, to a user equipment, one or more conditional handover configurations that are associated with a target cell candidate. The network node transmits, to the user equipment, a message to transition from a connected state to a sleeping state. After transmitting the message, the network node discards the conditional handover configurations.

  • Publication number: 20220007246
Abstract: A method and a wireless device are provided for handling handover in a wireless network from a source cell to a target cell when the device has obtained and stored a handover configuration for at least one target cell X. Upon detecting a communication failure, the wireless device performs cell selection and initiates handover to one of the target cell(s) X when that cell was selected, by applying the stored handover configuration of the selected cell. When none of the target cell(s) X was selected in the cell selection, the wireless device initiates an RRC re-establishment procedure.

  • Publication number: 20220007255
Abstract: A wireless device and method for re-establishing a radio connection in a communications network comprising a first RAT and a different second RAT. The wireless device is operating in a first cell served by a first radio network node operating in the first RAT. When a connection failure with the first cell is detected, the wireless device performs a cell selection and selects a second cell served by a second radio network node operating in the second RAT. The second cell is known by the wireless device to be a candidate for re-establishment. The wireless device determines a first set of parameters to be used as an identifier of the wireless device, wherein the first set of parameters is associated with the first cell. The wireless device transmits, to the second cell, a re-establishment request message comprising the first set of parameters.
