    Abstract: A payment processing service (PPS) can receive, during a transaction, and from a mobile device, tokenized data associated with a customer's payment instrument. The PPS can determine that a first application on the mobile device, and a second application on a second mobile device of a second user, both have connectivity to the PPS. The PPS can register an association between the applications and determine a service offered by the second user. Using the tokenized data, the PPS can determine historical transaction data associated with the payment instrument. The PPS can send personalized content to the mobile device and receive an authorization request and transaction data for the transaction from the mobile device, which the mobile device receives from the second mobile device. The PPS can process payment for the transaction and send to the second application an indication of the authorization, without providing access to card information.

A user interface field may be displayed and may be configured to receive a pairing code when pairing confirmation is received at the second device. A modality by which the card data was received may be determined and a determination may be made that the modality is one of the modalities indicated by the capabilities of the second device. A consumer can pay for a purchase from a seller using a payment object such as a credit card or automated teller machine (ATM) card. The credit card or ATM card can be swiped through a card reader that is part of the seller's sales system, and the sales system can transmit the purchase transaction to a financial system for approval. The consumer can use a mobile device such as a smartphone, instead of the seller's keypad or signature pad, to electronically capture a signature or personal identification number (PIN) as part of the consumer's authorization of the purchase transaction. The consumer can further use the mobile device to review line items of the purchase transaction or to add a tip amount to the total amount of the purchase transaction.

A consumer presents the proxy card to a merchant to make a payment, and the merchant swipes the proxy card and processes the payment by sending transaction information to a financial system. A computer system associated with the financial system selects a payment account associated with the proxy card to use for the payment, and an authorization for the transaction is obtained. Later, the consumer is given a limited time within which he may change the financial account used for the payment, such as by using his mobile device to select a different account associated with the proxy card to use to obtain funds for the payment.
