Publication number: 20170196295Abstract: A garment worn by a wearer has an exterior shell and an interior shell with various impact absorbing material between the exterior shell and the interior shell. The impact absorbing material includes multiple structures, such as rods or filaments, capable of deforming when force is applied then returning to its state prior to application of the force. In various embodiments, the impact absorbing material is manufactured using injection molding to allow positioning of various structures in the impact absorbing material relative to each other during manufacture. During manufacturing, one or more living hinges are included in portions of the impact absorbing material to allow certain portions of the impact absorbing material to be accurately positioned relative to each other. Other manufacturing methods may be used, such as three-dimensional printing may be used to include structures in the impact absorbing material.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 5, 2017Publication date: July 13, 2017Inventors: Travis Edward Glover, Anton Perry Alferness, Paul C. Leonard

Patent number: 8257310Abstract: A syringe for performing a medical procedure includes a pressure sensor, a volume sensor, and a compensation circuit. The volume sensor measures a volume of a flowable material that is dispensed from the syringe, the pressure sensor measures a pressure being applied to the flowable material, and the compensation circuit calculates a delivered volume of the flowable material by accounting for system compliance (expansion) as the pressure is increased. By compensating for system compliance in this manner, a syringe can be used in high pressure procedures while still providing accurately controllable material delivery.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2011Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: Kyphon SARLInventors: Brian W. Donovan, Andrea Y. Leung, Lisanne A. Eng, David P. Thompson, Robert B. Hubler, Stephanie A. Barnes, Thomas C. Arends, Keith Schubert, Paul C. Leonard, Paul F. Muller

Patent number: 7951243Abstract: A device for clearing obstructions from a medical tube, such as a chest tube, is disclosed in various embodiments. The device features a shuttle member that is magnetically coupled to a guide wire within a guide tube, through the guide-tube wall, so that translation of the shuttle member induces a corresponding translation of the guide wire within the guide tube, without penetrating or compromising the guide-tube wall. In this manner, when the guide tube is coupled to a medical tube where obstructions have formed, the guide wire and clearance member may be inserted into and withdrawn from the medical tube, via actuation of the shuttle member, to engage and help clear such obstructions from the medical tube without compromising the sterile field. Methods of clearing a medical tube of obstructions are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2009Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignees: Clear Catheter Systems, Inc., The Cleveland Clinic FoundationInventors: Edward M.
