Patent number: 8363697Abstract: Synchronized broadcast transmits a same broadcast content using a same waveform from multiple transmitters. Transmitters each apply a same spreading code for broadcast transmissions. In a spread-spectrum communication system having a time division multiplexed forward link, a synchronized broadcast transmission is inserted into a broadcast slot. One embodiment employs an Orthogonal Frequency Divisional Multiplex (OFDM) waveform for the synchronized broadcast. An OFDM receiver is then used to process the received synchronized broadcast transmission. An alternate embodiment implements a broadcast Pseudo-random Noise (PN) code for use by multiple transmitters. An equalizer is then employed to estimate the synchronized broadcast transmission.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2005Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporatedInventors: Matthew S. Grob, Peter J. Black, Srikant Jayaraman, Paul E. Jacobs

Publication number: 20110212705Abstract: In an embodiment, a profile server creates a profile that includes profile data and is associated with a first subscriber device. A second subscriber device receives an incoming call from the first subscriber device and queries the profile server for a profile associated with the first subscriber device. The profile server determines that the profile data is authorized for distribution to the second subscriber device, and thereby transmits the profile data in response to the received query and based on the determined authorization.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2011Publication date: September 1, 2011Inventors: Stephen A. Patent number: 7940908Abstract: A telecommunications device and/or service enable a user to establish and maintain a profile which is then associated with the user or the user's telecommunication device (the “calling device”). The profile is stored on a profile server that is in communication with the telecommunications service provider. A receiving device receives a call from the calling device and is provided with the profile during call set-up. Some or all of the profile is used in connection with the incoming call on the receiving device.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2006Date of Patent: May 10, 2011Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporatedInventors: Stephen A. Patent number: 7929991Abstract: A mobile electronic device includes an earphone/microphone port, an I/O circuit to receive a modulated data signal from data input devices via the earphone/microphone port, and a processor unit programmed to extract data from the modulated data signal. The processor unit (or the I/O circuit) detects connection of a device to an earphone/microphone connector of the mobile electronic device and determines whether the connected device is a data input device. If the connected device is a data input device, the processor unit is programmed to extract data from modulated data signals generated by data input device.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2006Date of Patent: April 19, 2011Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporatedInventors: Paul E. Patent number: 7788092Abstract: A speech signal is decoded by a vocoder and the reconstructed speech samples are provided to a decoded frame check unit. The decoded frame check unit examines the energy of the reconstructed speech and compares the energy of the reconstructed speech to a range of acceptable energy values. If the energy is not within the range of energy values, a frame erasure is declared and the decoded frame is prevented from being to the speaker in the telephone. In the exemplary implementation, the speech is reconstructed by a vocoder which includes a postfilter which in turn includes automatic gain control. The automatic gain control element of a post filter includes a means for measuring the energy of the decoded speech data. This measured energy is used by the decoded frame check unit to decide whether to provide the decoded data to the user or to declare a frame erasure. This implementation reduces the amount of additional hardware necessary to implement the present invention.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2007Date of Patent: August 31, 2010Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Paul E. Jacobs, Andrew P. Dejaco
