  • Patent number: 4960819
Abstract: It is highly desirable to be able to cure rubbers quickly since the amount of energy required for the curing process is reduced and the number of articles that can be cured in a mold in a given time is increased. In other words, the cycle time needed to cure articles made from such a rubber is reduced and the throughput of a mold utilized in curing such a rubber is increased. Unfortunately, most attempts to accelerate the cure rate of rubber have resulted in the rubber having poor scorch safety. The present invention discloses a fast curing rubber blend having excellent scorch safety which comprises: (a) from 50 to 98 weight percent of at least one polydiene rubber, and (b) from 2 to 50 weight percent of at least one vinylpyridine copolymer comprised of repeat units which are derived from a diene monomer and vinylpyridine wherein from 1 to 75 weight percent of the repeat units in said copolymer are derived from vinylpyridine.

  • Patent number: 4855364
Abstract: It is often desirable to utilize accelerators in the sulfur vulcanization of unsaturated rubbers. In many cases a primary accelerator is used in combination with another accelerator, called a secondary accelerator or activator, which further increases the rate of vulcanization. It has been determined that compounds having the structural formula:NH.sub.2 --A--NH--(CH.sub.2).sub.x NH].sub.n A--NH.sub.2wherein x is 2 or 3, wherein n is an integer from 1 to 100, and wherein A represents an alkylene group containing from 1 to 20 carbons atoms, act as secondary accelerators in the vulcanization of unsaturated rubbers. For example, it has been determined that 4,7-diaza-decane-1,10-diamine is a particularly desirable secondary accelerator.

  • Patent number: 4790365
Abstract: The subject invention discloses the use of syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene in the supporting carcass and/or innerliner of a tire. The incorporation of syndiotactic-1,2-polybutadiene into rubber compositions which are utilized in the supporting carcass or innerliner of tires greatly improves the green strength of those compositions. • Patent number: 4578411
Abstract: The conventional processing of rubbers into shaped articles of manufacture normally include a compounding step. In this compounding step the rubber is mixed with fillers, curatives, and various other additives so as to obtain a homogeneous mixture. The relatively high viscosity of these raw materials makes it necessary to utilize heavy machinery, such as Banbury mixtures, which consume large amounts of energy in the mixing procedure. The present invention provides an improved process for the production of tack-free, pourable, filler containing powdered rubber. This powdered rubber can be compounded eliminating in whole or in part the need for heavy equipment which consumes high amounts of energy.
