  • Patent number: 5708664
Abstract: A transmitter for transmitting a plurality of digital signals through a plurality of channels, the channels having a predetermined total allocated bitrate, includes a plurality of encoders each associated with one channel, a multiplexer for receiving the encoded digital signals and for transmitting the encoded signals as a stream of data, and operable for adjusting the distribution of the bitrate allocation between and among the encoded signals, and a processing device for providing an indication of a target quality and an actual quality for each channel and for causing the multiplexer to repeatedly adjust the distribution of the bitrate allocation in response to differences between the indicated actual quality and the indicated target quality for each channel so as to equalize differences between the actual and target quality across at least some of the channels.

  • Patent number: 5347779
Abstract: A high-rise building comprises an exterior wall and a sheath, which is spaced in front of said wall. Vertically extending flow channels are provided between said wall and said sheath and are open at their bottom and top and may be used to supply air to and from the interior of said building and to air-condition the interior of said building. To permit an effective control of the conditions of the ambient air adjoining said sheath, each of said flow passages communicates with the ambient air adjoining said sheath through a plurality of vertically spaced apart intake openings distributed throughout the height of said sheath.

  • Patent number: 4692639
Abstract: A regenerative strobe circuit for a CMOS logic gate which only dissipates energy during the strobing of the inputs into the logic array is provided. The logic gate is connected between an output node and a first voltage source. The regenerative strobe circuit includes a first transistor (P channel) which is connected between a second voltage source and the output node, a complementary inverter having P channel transistor and N channel transistor, and second and third transistors which are respectively gate controlled by a strobe signal and a signal related to the strobe signal. The second transistor (P channel) is also connected between the second voltage source and the source of the P channel transistor of the complementary inverter. The third transistor (preferably P channel) is connected to the gate of the first transistor as well as to the source of the N channel transistor of the complementary inverter.

  • Patent number: 4628936
Abstract: A foot orthosis for correctably realigning and repositioning specific anatomic segments of the human foot consists of three functional components, namely, a heel complex segment and two longitudinal forefoot segments--namely, a medial segment and a lateral segment. The heel complex segment is independently connected to each longitudinal forefoot segment by a connector. The segments function sufficiently independently from one another to consider the device a triplanar foot orthosis.

  • Patent number: 4446856
Abstract: An orthotic device that includes a boot for immobilizing the ankle and foot against relative movement and holds them in a neutral position of maximal joint congruency while providing a sole having a platform for causing the foot to describe a heel to toe rocking movement such that the leg of the user is flexed at the knee and a pivotting motion is induced at the hip joint during walking.
