  • Publication number: 20030014490
Abstract: A collating table containing user-defined sort criteria in ranked order is employed in sorting electronic mail messages for display to the user. Entries within the collating table prioritize unread and/or previously viewed messages based upon the address of the sender or similar attributes, and may each contain a specific username and domain address, a domain of user addresses, or a plurality of addresses of either type. Entries within the collating table may be fixed or dynamic, with dynamic entries automatically updated based on historical statistics relating to the frequency and/or speed of response by the user to messages previously received from the sender, speed of opening or deleting prior messages from the sender, or some user-specified combination of such attributes. Addresses within the dynamic entries may percolate up or down the ranking of the collating table, with aging employed in removing addresses from the collating table.

  • Publication number: 20030009460
Abstract: The electronic document composer stored in the memory and executable by the processor is utilized for drafting a first electronic document. A sender composes the first electronic document including at least a normal element, a conditional element, and a link element utilizing the electronic message composer. The sender can associate the conditional element with the link element, thus hiding the conditional element from view. The first electronic document is viewed utilizing the electronic document viewer. As the recipient invokes display of a remotely stored second electronic document by selecting an associated link element, the conditional element related to the associated link element will then become visible.

  • Publication number: 20020174416
Abstract: A method to trace a variable or other expression through a computer program is disclosed. A user determines the variable and the conditions upon which activity of the variable will be monitored. As a result of the invention, every time that variable is referenced in a memory operation or other activity by the program and the conditions set forth by the user are satisfied, the state of that variable is saved as a snapshot without interrupting or stopping execution of the program. The snapshots are accumulated in a history table. The history table can be retrieved and the state of the variable in any given snapshot can be restored. Other variables and expressions can be attached to the trigger variable and the states of these other variables at the time of the activity of the trigger variable may also be saved in the snapshot. The method may be incorporated into a program as a tracing device or a program product separate from the logical processing device executing the program.

  • Publication number: 20020152459
Abstract: An apparatus, program product and method for recalling a previous program channel of interest from a current program channel, where the channel of interest is determined by the amount of time a user has previously spent on the channel. The amount of elapsed time a user spends on a program channel is monitored. If the elapsed time exceeds a predetermined threshold, the program channel is identified as a channel of interest. As the user switches from the channel of interest to subsequent broadcast channels (i.e., “surfs”), the channel of interest is retained in memory as long as the amount of time spent on any subsequent channel is less than the predetermined time threshold. If the amount of time spent on a subsequent channel is greater than the predetermined time threshold, the subsequent channel is identified and stored as the new channel of interest. At any time, the user may select a selective view function to return to the channel of interest from the currently selected channel.

  • Patent number: 6452617
Abstract: An apparatus, program product, and method dynamically adjust a click time threshold for recognizing subsequent click events on a graphical user interface in response to a user interacting with an application with a click event. More specifically, the actuations of a button of a user-manipulated pointing device are monitored. A click event is posted for the application when a predetermined number of button clicks occur within a click time threshold. In addition to this user interaction with the application, advantageously a duration of the predetermined number of button clicks is determined. Then, the click time threshold is adjusted responsive to the duration of the predetermined number of button clicks. Consequently, adjustment of click event recognition is dynamically made while the user interacts with an application that is not solely directed toward customizing the recognition of click events.

  • Patent number: 6425127
Abstract: A method and system for controlling visual access by a user to selected broadcast commercial advertisements. A video stream which includes multiple commercial advertisements is broadcast to multiple receivers, each coupled to a video display at a user's location. Unique identifications of each commercial advertisement and an initiation/termination delimiter signal are also embedded within the video stream. Selected commercial advertisements are then stored within memory within each receiver in response to an indication that a particular video stream containing those commercial advertisements is not currently displayed at a user's location. Thereafter, these stored commercial advertisements are substituted for an alternate commercial advertisement within the video stream at a subsequent time in response to an indication that the particular video stream is once again displayed at a user's location, ensuring that the selected commercial advertisements are viewed by a user.
