Abstract: A cordless communication and control device has a handset that includes communications equipment and remote control equipment. The communications equipment provides cordless telephone functionality, and the remote control equipment provides for remote control of one or more entertainment appliances. The handset also includes a mode controller in communication with the communications equipment and the remote control equipment. The mode controller provides at least one convenience mode. When a convenience mode is active, the mode controller responds to detection of an incoming call by automatically limiting utilization of the communications equipment and/or one or more entertainment appliances, based on the active convenience mode. In a first embodiment, the cordless communication and control device automatically limits the utilization by automatically preventing the communications equipment from producing an audible indication of the incoming call.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided for implementing web based document printing. A print index is obtained. User selected uniform resource locators (URLs) in the print index are identified. The URLs in the print index are sequentially printed. The print index stores a list of user selected uniform resource locators (URLs) to be printed. A web based printing program utilizes the stored print index for printing a document including the list of user selected uniform resource locators (URLs).

Abstract: A method and meeting scheduler are provided for automated meeting insertion and rescheduling for busy calendars. An electronic calendar meeting scheduling program stores meeting automation properties defined for each scheduled meeting. The electronic calendar meeting scheduling program stores meeting attendee automation properties defined for each attendee of each scheduled meeting. The electronic calendar meeting scheduling program utilizes the stored meeting automation properties and the stored meeting attendee automation properties to calculate a conflict score and action list for each potential time block for automated meeting insertion and rescheduling. The calculated conflict score and action list for each potential time block for rescheduling a meeting are based upon multiple factors including a move score, a leave early score, and a shorten meeting score. The action list includes an entry for each meeting altered for automated meeting insertion and rescheduling.

Abstract: A method, meeting scheduler and computer program product are provided for automated meeting scheduling using delegates, representatives, quorums, and teams. Meeting settings and invitees data are stored for a meeting. The meeting settings and invitees data includes invitee attendance type, delegates, representatives, quorums, and teams data. A solution time block for automated meeting scheduling including at least a subset of a plurality of selected invitees is identified utilizing the invitee attendance type, delegates, representatives, quorums, and teams data. A selection score is calculated for each potential time block for automated meeting scheduling utilizing the stored meeting settings and invitees data including the invitee attendance type, delegates, representatives, quorums, and teams data. The solution time block for automated meeting scheduling including a subset of a plurality of selected invitees is identified utilizing the calculated selection score.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, system, and program product for utilizing metawords to find electronic documents. According to the method of the present invention, a user specifies an initial search expression that includes at least one metaword. It is determined that the at least one metaword corresponds to a boolean expression, and, in response, an expanded search expression is generated. The expanded search expression includes the boolean expression in lieu of the at least one metaword, such that the expanded search expression is utilized in lieu of the initial search expression to find the electronic documents. In an illustrative embodiment, the determining step includes the step of determining that one or more terms and a count qualifier are associated with the at least one metaword. The count qualifier specifies a threshold number of occurrences of the one or more terms within a single electronic document.

Abstract: A document and image management system that can manage handwritten comments and/or edits on conventional paper. The invention may be embodied as an enhanced photocopier adapted to locate and classify handwritten notations using optical character recognition techniques. This embodiment allows the user to select options to selectively copy only those pages with notations, to create an index of handwritten notations, to add side margin locator marks to the document, and to compare subsequent comments on different drafts.

Abstract: A search system and method for performing group-based searches. The system comprises a client system having a browser and a search engine plug-in, wherein the search engine plug-in allows group members to generate nomination data by nominating web pages; and a server having a control program and a group structure for storing nomination data, wherein the control program generates a primary search result list based on a search index, and further refines the search result list based on the stored nomination data.

Abstract: A method, system, and program product for generating a window scroll-bar. In the preferred embodiment, a controller displays the window scroll-bar on a display screen. The window scroll-bar contains sections associated with respective windows on the display. The window scroll-bar also contains a slider, which moves within a section and between sections. As the slider moves within a particular section, the window associated with that section moves on the display toward the nearest boundary of the display. Thus, by moving the window scroll-bar slider, the user can move overlapping windows out of the way and find the window of interest.

Abstract: A computer system, program product and method that monitor the threads executing within a region of a computer program during debugging. This region may be a plurality of nonadjacent sections of code, each with defined entry and exit addresses identified by control points. Some or all threads may be halted depending on a predetermined criteria related to threads of interest or the number of threads executing in the region. Of special interest is monitoring for a thread count so that timing errors may be analyzed for when some plurality of threads simultaneously execute within the region. Moreover, in the illustrative embodiment, control points are implemented for thread monitoring in a manner similar to a break point, utilizing a break point table to determine whether a system exception is due to a break point or to a thread monitor control point. If the latter, program execution continues after storing the thread identifier in a record for the thread monitor control point in the break point table.

Abstract: A method and system for vehicle hazard warning and safety integrated with an onboard navigational system for providing a current geographical location of the vehicle to a base station, receiving an event signal from the vehicle at the base station, while the vehicle is proximate to the current geographic location associating the geographic location with the event signal to determine that the vehicle is distressed, and transmitting hazard information from the base station to the vehicle in response to such association. The association may be based upon directional information which is provided by the vehicle. A control signal is transmitted to the vehicle and the hazard lights of the vehicle are automatically activated in response to receipt of that control signal. Navigational assistance can also be presented to the vehicle.

Abstract: An on-screen program guide formatted with viewership information is provided. In general, viewership data is collected from a plurality of viewers via, e.g., cable and satellite receivers. The viewership data is then processed to provide viewership information including viewership interest, viewership growth rates, surfing behavior, and other viewership behavior. The viewership interest may also include group member information such as which members of a group are watching a particular program, group ratings of a program, individual member ratings of a program and the like. The viewership information may then be transmitted back to the viewers and displayed as part of an on-screen program guide or other visual interface.

Abstract: A method for resolving meeting conflicts for an electronic calendar application is disclosed. After receiving a request for setting a first meeting schedule for a first meeting, an electronic calendar application sets a first meeting schedule and a first meeting priority number associated with the first meeting. In response to a request to set a second meeting schedule for a second meeting, and the second meeting schedule conflicts with the first meeting schedule, the electronic calendar application determines whether a second meeting priority number associated with the second meeting is higher than the first meeting priority number associated with the first meeting. If the second meeting priority number is determined to be higher than the first meeting priority number, then the electronic calendar application overrides the first meeting schedule with the second meeting schedule.

Abstract: The present invention generally provides a method, article of manufacture and apparatus for selecting and displaying real-time bookmarks. Bookmarks are configured and displayed according to predetermined parameters when relevancy conditions established between a currently displayed network address and the bookmarks are satisfied.

Abstract: A database query optimizer for a computer system having dynamically configurable logical partitions generates an optimized query strategy which is dependent on a logical partition configuration. When the query is executed, the configuration of the logical partition in which the query is executed is compared to the logical partition configuration for which the query was optimized. If the configurations are different, a new query can be automatically generated. Optimizing database queries to the current system configuration of a dynamic, logically partitioned system potentially offers greater efficiency in the execution of database queries for complex, logically partitioned systems.

Abstract: An apparatus, program product, and method utilize a “document trail” to facilitate the location of other documents reachable from a given hypertext document. The document trail includes a plurality of identifiers that respectively identify a plurality of interlinked hypertext documents and permit a user to navigate from a origination hypertext document to a destination hypertext document simply by following the trail of interlinked hypertext documents to the destination hypertext document.

Abstract: Ranked breakpoints are defined in a computer program that allow a debugger to determine whether or not to halt execution of the computer program when a ranked breakpoint is encountered based on the rank of the breakpoint compared to a threshold rank. In a preferred embodiment, the threshold rank is the rank of a RunTo function, and the ranked breakpoints only halt execution of the computer program if their rank is higher than the threshold rank of the RunTo function. The present invention thus provides a mechanism for ignoring some or all breakpoints in a computer program when performing debugger functions, such as a RunTo function.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for notifying a user of an appointment. In one embodiment, an appointment time and an appointment location is received for the appointment. A current location of a wireless device is determined. A travel time is estimated for the user to travel from the current location of the wireless device to the appointment location. A lead time is determined for the user to prepare prior to travel from the current location to the appointment location. The estimated travel time, the determined lead time and the appointment time is used to determine a projected start time. The user of the wireless device is notified of the appointment if a current time reaches the alarm time.

Abstract: Apparatus, methods and articles of manufacture are provided for tracking breakpoint hits. In one embodiment, a hit count is automatically incremented for each breakpoint. The hit count is stored for subsequent runs, thereby allowing a user to specify a breakpoint encounter number, N, to which a program may execute and then stop. Illustratively, each breakpoint encounter may have been automatically tracked prior to the user's specification of N. In another embodiment, a range in which the breakpoint is located is specified. The hit count is incremented for each encounter of the breakpoint in the range and reset each time the range is entered.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for locating electronic documents by allowing a user to specify, prioritize and control the order of a resulting hit list at the front end of a search are provided. One embodiment provides a method for searching electronic documents, comprising: receiving a search expression including one or more search terms having one or more weight criteria, wherein the one or more weight criteria include a user designated score modifier; finding one or more candidate documents based on the search expression; calculating a score for each candidate document according to the one or more weight criteria; and transmitting information for displaying a list of the one or more candidate documents reflecting the calculated scores. The weight criteria may be selected from a location of the one or more search terms, a format of the one or more search terms, and a frequency count of the one or more search terms.
