  • Publication number: 20200250236
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for updating search results based on a user's comment or a conversation among users using a media guidance application. A set of search results may be presented to a user or users. Comments or a conversation about the search results may be analyzed by the media guidance application. Selected comments by a user determined to have a greater weight may be used to update the search results.

  • Patent number: 10674218
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for modeling the consistency of audiences viewing groups of media assets. For example, a media guidance application (e.g., executed on a server) may identify a first subset of user equipment that generated for display a first media asset (e.g., an episode of a series). The media guidance application may then identify a second subset of the first subset where the user equipment generated for display another media asset that is part of a group of media assets (e.g., another episode of the same series). Based on the number of user equipment in the second subset, the media guidance application may calculate a score for audience consistency for the group of media assets (e.g., the series) which can be used to rank the group of media assets among other groups of media assets.

  • Patent number: 10667010
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for determining a level of user engagement based on user interactions. A media guidance application is configured to retrieve a first record of a first plurality of user inputs, including input type, received during consumption of a media asset. A second time interval, prior to the first time interval, is selected by shifting the first start time and the first end time. A second record of a second plurality of user inputs received during the second time interval, including input type, is retrieved. A first media asset consumed during the first time interval and a second media asset consumed during the second time interval are determined, and the level of user engagement for the first media asset is determined based on the first record and the second record.

  • Patent number: 10607260
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for presenting supplemental information to a user that is related to an advertisement consumed by the user that the user found interesting. It may be determined that a user is interested in receiving supplemental information based on the user starting to use a device within a threshold time period from consuming the advertisement on a different device. The threshold time period may be determined based on historical amounts of time users have taken to access supplemental information after consuming the advertisement (e.g., if users access a webpage associated with the advertisement five minutes after the conclusion of the advertisement, the threshold time period may be five minutes). In response to determining that the user started using the first device within the threshold period of time from the end of the advertisement, supplemental information associated with the advertisement may be presented.

  • Publication number: 20200014973
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to record portions of media assets. User request is received to record a media asset together with a criterion for recording portions of that media asset. A content recognition algorithm is executed against segments of the media asset to determine a set of keywords associated with those segments. Separately a set of keywords associated with the criterion is generated. Sets of keywords are compared and segments that match the criterion are discovered. If it is determined that a first segment and third segment each match the criterion and a second segment does not, a delete indicator is added to the second segment and the third and first segments are compared. If those segments match the delete indicator is removed from the second segment.

  • Patent number: 10506279
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a sequence of video clips are provided. A user input identifying a source of video is received. Responsive to the user input, a plurality of future videos provided by the source that is unavailable to the user at a time when the user input was received is identified. A sequence of video clips associated with the identified plurality of future videos is generated.

  • Publication number: 20190171661
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for efficiently providing personalized search results to a user. Personalized search allows a user to receive search results that are most relevant to that user. For example, when a user with a strong interest in rap searches for “50 cent” they may be presented with top search results corresponding to 50 Cent's rap albums. Conversely, when a coin collector searches for “50 cent” they may be presented with top search results containing antique coins.

  • Publication number: 20190020726
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed herein for a media guidance application that provides diverse and reliable media content suggestions. Specifically, the media guidance application may monitor user preferences of a select group of friends of the user and base media recommendations on those user preferences. The media guidance application may determine close friends of the user, such as friends that a user regularly communicates with, and include recommendations on the media preferences of only those close friends.

It may be determined that a user is interested in receiving supplemental information based on the user starting to use a device within a threshold time period from consuming the advertisement on a different device. The threshold time period may be determined based on the length of the advertisement slot including the advertisement (e.g., the threshold time period may be 30 seconds if the length of the advertisement slot is 30 seconds). In response to determining that the user started using the first device within the threshold period of time from the end of the advertisement, supplemental information associated with the advertisement may be presented to the user.
