  • Publication number: 20180189856
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for recommending a device to a user. Device entries for a first user and a second user may be retrieved. Attributes of devices of the first user may be compared with attributes of other devices of the first user. The same comparison may be made amongst devices of the second user. Based on the comparison, sets of devices may be generated where a level of similarity between each device in each set exceeds a threshold level of similarity. A characteristic may be identified that is unique for each set of devices. The unique characteristic for each set for the first user may be compared with a unique characteristic for each set for the second user to determine which sets for the first user match sets for the second user. If enough sets match, a device may be recommended from a set that does not match.

  • Publication number: 20180189830
Abstract: Identification information related to a device may be received that includes user information and device information. Based on the user information, a user entry corresponding to the user information may be located in a database of user records. It may be determined that the device information is not found in the user entry. A plurality of sales attributes may be determined in response. Those may include at least one of (1) a release date of the device and a purchase date indicating when the user purchased the device, and (2) a release price of the device and a current price of the device at the purchase date. Based on the information, a purchase metric may be computed and the device information stored in the previously purchased device field of the entry. Based on the purchase metric, a purchase metric threshold may be generated for recommending another device to the user.

  • Publication number: 20180184170
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for modeling the consistency of audiences viewing groups of media assets. For example, a media guidance application (e.g., executed on a server) may identify a first subset of user equipment that generated for display a first media asset (e.g., an episode of a series). The media guidance application may then identify a second subset of the first subset where the user equipment generated for display another media asset that is part of a group of media assets (e.g., another episode of the same series). Based on the number of user equipment in the second subset, the media guidance application may calculate a score for audience consistency for the group of media assets (e.g., the series) which can be used to rank the group of media assets among other groups of media assets.

  • Publication number: 20180184165
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for determining a level of user engagement based on user interactions. A media guidance application is configured to retrieve a first record of a first plurality of user inputs, including input type, received during consumption of a media asset. A second time interval, prior to the first time interval, is selected by shifting the first start time and the first end time. A second record of a second plurality of user inputs received during the second time interval, including input type, is retrieved. A first media asset consumed during the first time interval and a second media asset consumed during the second time interval are determined, and the level of user engagement for the first media asset is determined based on the first record and the second record.

  • Publication number: 20180096382
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for a more accurate system for targeting specific users for advertising. An advertisement-suitability score associated with each of a plurality of users may be determined and users may be split into subsets. Those users whose advertisement-suitability score is within a threshold of a target may be identified and selected to receive an advertisement. From the rest of the users, those who have already seen an advertisement for the target-product may be identified, and a determination may be made of how many times a user is exposed to an advertisement before the user buys a product. Those users whose advertisement exposure is within a certain threshold of the number of times a user is exposed to an advertisement before the user buys a product may be identified and an updated advertisement-suitability may be calculated so that more users can be targeted to receive an advertisement.

  • Patent number: 9792286
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for efficiently providing personalized search results to a user. Personalized search allows a user to receive search results that are most relevant to that user. For example, when a user with a strong interest in rap searches for “50 cent” they may be presented with top search results corresponding to 50 Cent's rap albums. Conversely, when a coin collector searches for “50 cent” they may be presented with top search results containing antique coins.

  • Publication number: 20170280191
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to record portions of media assets. User request is received to record a media asset together with a criterion for recording portions of that media asset. A content recognition algorithm is executed against segments of the media asset to determine a set of keywords associated with those segments. Separately a set of keywords associated with the criterion is generated. Sets of keywords are compared and segments that match the criterion are discovered. If it is determined that a first segment and third segment each match the criterion and a second segment does not, a delete indicator is added to the second segment and the third and first segments are compared. If those segments match the delete indicator is removed from the second segment.

  • Publication number: 20150347357
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein provide for automatically linking words/phrases in messages to corresponding associated objects (e.g., information sources). A message (e.g., social network posting, email, text message) is submitted by a user to a server (e.g., social network server, email server, text messaging server). The server performs text recognition on the message and identifies a plurality of objects that are associated with a selected portion of the message (e.g., word/phrase related to a media asset). An object is selected from the associated objects as a match for the selected portion of the message. The submitted message is modified to visually distinguish the selected portion of the message as a selectable link to a display related to the selected match. The modified, linked message is displayed to the user.
