  • Publication number: 20240171213
Abstract: A frequency hopping radio communications module for a measurement system, including a measurement probe and an interface for a machine tool. The communications module is configured to transmit and/or receive radio signals using at least ten frequency channels and can operate in at least a metrology mode for communicating measurement data and a standby mode. Operation in the standby mode includes hopping between fewer frequency channels than operation in the metrology mode. In particular, operation in standby mode includes hopping between three of the at least ten frequency channels in accordance with a second hopping pattern, the three frequency channels being from different thirds of the frequency band. This allows faster frequency hopping synchronisation to be achieved and improves battery life.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a battery electrode includes casting a solid battery electrode from a slurry including electrode particles, a binder, and a solvent, wherein residual solvent remains after the casting and the binder remains at least partially elastic. The solid battery electrode then undergoes flash-freezing such that the residual solvent forms dendritic ice having a pattern, and then the dendritic ice is removed from the solid battery electrode, thereby rearranging the electrode particles and the binder into a microstructure that represents a geometric negative of the pattern of the dendritic ice.

  • Publication number: 20240171214
Abstract: A frequency hopping radio communications module includes a clock and a memory for storing a hopping pattern. The communications module is switchable between first, second, and third modes. The first and second modes respectively transmit and/or receive data using a series of frames having first and second frame times. The first frame time is equal to, or an integer multiple of, the base time interval. The second frame time is an integer multiple of the first frame time. Operation in the third mode includes transmitting and/or receiving data using a series of frames having a third frame time, the third frame time being an integer multiple of the second frame time. Each successive base time interval is associated with a successive frequency channel of the hopping pattern sequence and each frame uses the frequency channel associated with the base time interval that occurs at the start of that frame.

  • Publication number: 20240171446
Abstract: A digital radio receiver comprises a configurable filter, a configurable re-sampler and a configurable mixer, and operates in accordance with a predetermined radio communication protocol which defines a first type of data packet that, when transmitted, occupies a first range of frequencies, and a second type of data packet that, when transmitted, occupies a second range of frequencies, the first range being wider than the second range. The filter, re-sampler and mixer process data packets of both the first and second type. By default, the filter attenuates frequencies that fall outside of the first range. When the receiver receives a data packet transmitted by a remote device it determines whether the data packet is of the second type and, if so, it configures the filter to attenuate frequencies that fall outside of the second range, and configures the re-sampler and mixer in dependence on the determination.
