  • Patent number: 8757004
Abstract: The disclosure relates a safety shield for the jaws of a grip used for tensile or similar materials testing. The safety shield typically attached to the jaws and shields the jaws on two, three or four sides in order to reduce the hazard of a user placing his or her fingers between the jaws while positioning the testing sample or specimen therebetween. A user is typically able to adjust the position of the safety shield to achieve greater safety. The safety shield may be configured from planar material, such as sheet metal or plastic, or from wire material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 26, 2010
Date of Patent: June 24, 2014
    Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.
Inventors: Paulo A. Martin, James B. Smallwood, Edward A. McHenry, Jr.
  • Patent number: 8448522
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a specimen holder for a grip used in materials, or similar testing. The user can position a specimen or testing sample within the open jaw, and then remove his or her hands to a safe location before activating the grip to grip the specimen.

  • Publication number: 20080053320
Abstract: The disclosure relates to pad printing of video targets on a specimen for tensile or similar testing by a video extensometer. The pad printer may include various improvements such as pneumatic pistons to vary the pad spacing; pad supports which vary their spacing between ink pick-up and printing thereby allowing for a range of printing for a given cliché or printing plate; automatic proportional gauge length calculation; and a combination of a mechanical boss and a magnetic plate to secure the printing pad to the pad carrier.
    Type: Application

  • Patent number: 5440934
Abstract: Limit switch control of crosshead materials testing machine movement in which a rod carrying slides selectively fixedly mounted thereon moves an actuator in a base, the actuator including camming surfaces and the base carrying limit switches actuatable by the camming surfaces, the actuator being slidable in the base between a neutral position to which it is biased and other positions to which the actuator is urged by the slides through the rod and slides pursuant to crosshead imposed forces.
