Abstract: Particulate embolotherapeutic compositions are described in which the particles comprise a matrix polymer expressing at surfaces available for interaction with biological molecules or, usually, blood cells, express zwitterionic groups, usually phosphoryl choline groups. The particles have suitable size and compressibility, for instance controlled by controlling the water content, for use in embolotherapy, by administration using catheters or hypodermic needles. The matrix polymer may be crosslinked. Preferably the particles are spherical. Examples are crosslinked polyvinylalcohol matrices coated with a crosslinkable copolymer formed of 2-methacryloyloxyethyl-2?-trimethylammoniumethyl phosphate inner salt with nonionic and crosslinkable comonomers. The coating is stabilised by crosslinking after coating from an organic solvent solution.

Abstract: A composition for chemoembolotherapy of solid tumours comprises particles of a water-insoluble water-swellable synthetic anionic polymer and, absorbed therein an anthracycline. Suitably the polymer is a poly(vinyl alcohol) based polymer and the drug is doxorubicin.

Abstract: In contrast to exiting flow-restricting penis encircling rings applying a single selected pressure as determined by their size and construction material, there is provided a pressure-applying device to counter venous leakage having an operating mode of making available a range of pressures so that a user can select a pressure from the range, prior use of the device, as might be determined from trial and error that is most effective for his artery system, all to the end of maintaining an erectile penis condition.

Abstract: The control circuits for the electronic flow meter which are the subject of this invention and whose purpose is to meter with precision the flow through a pipe, eliminating disturbances caused by the metering procedure use, consist of an excitation block (2) of coils (B1 and B2) for the magnetic circuit and a processing block (3) for the metering signal which is captured through sensors (S) arranged orthogonally to the magnetic circuit pole components.

Abstract: There are described new reactive adsorbents from sepiolite, as carrier, and an oxidant agent, particularly a permanganate salt, preferably potassium permanganate.There is also described the process for preparing said reactive adsorbents, and a process for preserving harvested vegetable products and fruit using said reactive adsorbents. Said preserving process involves oxidation to carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) of the ethylene generated by the vegetable products and fruit, by contact of the atmosphere surrounding the vegetable with the reactive adsorbents of the invention.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for dispensing elastic members in connection with orthodontic work wherein a cartridge of such members in an undistorted shape is located between a body and a piston. The body has a tapered surface and a generally cylindrical surface. The piston slides in a sleeve, but is not rotatable therein, and a clamp engages an elastic member to move it as the sleeve is moved, over the conical surface of the body and to expand the member onto the cylindrical surface and over the same onto the device to which it is to be mounted.
