    Abstract: A method of modulating and demodulating superposed signals for MUST scheme is proposed. A transmitter takes bit sequences intended for multiple receivers under MUST scheme to go through a “bit sequence to constellation points” mapper before entering the modulators to satisfy the Gray coding rule and to achieve high demodulation performance for the receivers. In a first method, each bit sequence is assigned for each constellation point on the constellation map to satisfy one or more conditions under different power split factors. In a second method, the constellation map is divided into sub-regions according to the clustering of the constellation points for bit sequence assignment. A near-UE may use an ML receiver for demodulation and decoding the superposed signal. A far-UE may use an ML receiver or an MMSE receiver for demodulation and decoding the superposed signal.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for efficient bandwidth adaptation for wideband carrier. In one novel aspect, the UE starts a BWP timer upon detecting one or more BWP timer starting triggering events, resets the BWP timer upon detecting BWP resetting triggering events, and switches to the default BWP upon expiration of the BWP timer. The BWP timer starting triggering events comprises decoding a command to switch away from the default BWP, the detection of end of DL data transmission in DRX mode. In another novel aspect, the UE only decodes the DCI indication for active BWP switching in the first three OFDM symbols of a subframe or a slot. In yet another novel aspect, when the SPS is configured for the serving cell for a UE with multiple BWPs, the SPS is configured for all the BWPs accordingly.

    Abstract: Periodic Radio Resource Management (RRM) reporting from user equipments (UEs) is beneficial for a network to efficiently select a carrier with a cleaner channel to serve the UEs. To enable periodic RRM reporting from UEs, periodic beacon signal transmission for UE measurements is necessary. However, in a shared spectrum, precise periodic transmission cannot be guaranteed due to channel contention. A method of transmission with periodic time windows for beacon signal transmission is proposed to resolve potential issues. Under the proposed solution, beacon signal can be transmitted in a certain periodic fashion without frequent physical layer signaling. Furthermore, periodic beacon signal transmission for measurements can be kept with low transmission failure rate due to channel contention.

    Abstract: A method of two-stage scheduling in downlink control channel is proposed to enhance downlink control information (DCI) forward compatibility and hardware flexibility. The DCI comprises a basic DCI and an extended DCI. The basic DCI provides basic scheduling information of the scheduled data. The extended DCI provides extended scheduling information of the scheduled data channel. The basic DCI can be unicast to a single UE over UE-specific search space. The basic DCI can also be broadcast or multicast to a group of UEs over common search space. UE performs blind detection of the basic DCI only, while the location and size of the extended DCI can be provided by the basic DCI or provided by a higher layer signaling. Cross-slot/subframe and Multi-slot/subframe scheduling can also be applied in the two-stage scheduling.

    Abstract: An efficient Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) operation for low-latency and high-performance services in one radio access technology (RAT) in a wireless communication network is proposed. Under the proposed single HARQ operation scheme, an adaptive HARQ-ACK feedback timing is applied based on UE conditions and UE capability to support the tradeoff between low-latency and high-performance applications. In one embodiment, UE signals the network its HARQ-ACK timing capability. Furthermore, an adaptive number of HARQ processes is applied with a fixed HARQ soft buffer size because the hardware cost for HARQ soft buffer does not linearly increase with the number of HARQ processes. In one embodiment, UE determines a nominal HARQ soft buffer size and HARQ soft buffer size for each HARQ process based on a network-configured HARQ process number.

A processor of a modem of a user equipment (UE), configured with at least a first-capacity decoder and at least a second-capacity decoder, receives a common virtual carrier (CVC), a dedicated virtual carrier (DVC), or both. The CVC contains common information shared by multiple UEs, control information for the UE, and/or data information related to first data destined for the UE. The DVC contains control information for the UE, the first data, or a combination thereof. The first-capacity decoder decodes data of a small size up to a low data rate. The second-capacity decoder decodes data of a large size up to a high data rate. The processor determines whether to decode the first data using the first-capacity decoder or the second-capacity decoder based on the data information in the CVC.

In one novel aspect, virtual carrier (VC) with a block of physically contiguous radio resources within a component carrier is configured.     Abstract: A flexible radio frame structure for both FDD and TDD is proposed. Under the flexible frame structure, each radio frame consists of a plurality of slots, and each slot within a radio frame has a flexible slot type. As a basic scheduling unit, each slot can be configured by the base station via physical layer signaling. The slot type can be changed dynamically based on current system needs to support different DL/UL ratios and latency requirements. With the support of different slot types and asynchronous DL/UL HARQ operation, HARQ operation for DL/UL can share the same HARQ timing to simplify the system design and reduce implementation complexity.

    Abstract: A new air interface that is interference cancellation friendly is proposed. In one novel aspect, a novel code rate assignment with rate splitting is proposed. In one embodiment, a base station decomposes a codeword {x1} into two codewords {x1a} and {x1b}. The two codewords are applied with different code rates and/or modulation orders. More specifically, the code rate or modulation order of codeword {x1a} is set appropriately so that a victim UE can decode and cancel {x1a} under the channel quality of the victim UE. Typically, the channel quality of a victim UE is poorer than the channel quality of the intended UE. As a result, the MCS for {x1a} can be lower than the MCS for {x1b} such that the victim UE is able to apply CWIC to decode and cancel {x1a}.

    Abstract: A method of determining and adapting a contention window size (CWS) based on channel loading for load-based equipment (LBE) listen before talk (LBT) channel access mechanism is proposed. The historic observations obtained from carrier sensing can reflect the state of channel loading, which is then used to adapt the maximal contention window size. A wireless device collects historical channel loading information including the number of idle slots and the number of busy slots. The wireless device uses the historical information to estimate the total number of active devices M in the wireless network and the channel-loading factor. The wireless device then computes the thresholds using the long-term value of M and then adapts the value of the CWS based on the channel-loading factor and the thresholds.
