  • Patent number: 7509145
Abstract: A transmission method and a base transceiver station applying antenna hopping between at least two antenna elements are provided. According to one embodiment of the invention, a carrier carrying a first signal and a second signal is transmitted. At least a portion of the first signal is subjected to a measurement for adjusting receive characteristics of a mobile station for the reception of at least a portion of the second signal. Antenna hopping is applied to the carrier such that the at least a portion of the first signal and the at least a portion of the second signal are transmitted during an interval between two consecutive antenna hops between the at least two antenna elements.

  • Patent number: 7280515
Abstract: A method and an arrangement are disclosed for implementing fast signalling in a communication connection between a base station and a mobile station of a cellular radio network. There is defined an arrangement of repeatedly occurring frames that consist of pieces of allocatable radio communication capacity between the base station and mobile stations communicating therewith. Pieces of radio communication capacity are allocated from the arrangement of repeatedly occurring frames to dedicated communication channels. A certain piece of radio communication capacity is allocated from the arrangement of repeatedly occurring frames to a non-dedicated fast signalling channel between the mobile stations and the base station. This piece of radio communication capacity allocated to a non-dedicated fast signalling channel is used for conveying fast signalling messages between at least one mobile station and the base station.

  • Patent number: 7200172
Abstract: A method of operation of a receiver of a mobile station or a base station of a radio access network and corresponding equipment, the method for especial use in providing interference cancellation according to a single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) algorithm. The method includes a step (22) in which a channel estimator (12) estimates channel impulse response components for use by a SAIC equalizer (14); in estimating the channel impulse response components, the channel estimator (12) minimizes a special cost function (Jch(h)) with respect to the components of the channel impulse response h. In some embodiments, the method uses an iterative least mean squares procedure to minimize the cost function (Jch(h)).

  • Patent number: 6782255
Abstract: The inventive idea is to send in the same cell on one channel several signals and to cause different radio frequency characteristics to the signals received on the same channel. The different characteristics of signals are brought about e.g. by modulating the signals in different ways or by sending the signals from different points, whereby the different signals will experience different radio channels. Owing to the different characteristics, the signals can be distinguished from one another by a joint detection, interference cancellation method. In the downlink direction from the base transceiver station to the mobile station and in the uplink direction from mobile station to the base transceiver station it is often advantageous to use different methods.

  • Patent number: 6445757
Abstract: The invention relates to a diversity combining method and to a receiver. In diversity combining, outputs (33) of a matched filter (25) of each branch are weighted with a quality estimate (32) which is generated in quality means (28b) in such a matter that the quality estimate (30) is proportional to the inverse of the interference strength (31) of the signal. The strength (31) of signal interference is generated in interference means (28c) e.g. in variance-like fashion from the differences between a reference signal (30) generated in reference signal means (28a) as the convolution of the estimated channel impulse response and the predetermined sequence and a signal received from the channel.

  • Patent number: 6418175
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the strength of co-channel signals, and a receiver utilizing the method. The training sequences of the signals to be received are classified into subsets, and a channel estimate related to the signal is formed by comparing the training sequences of the received signal to the training sequences of the subset signals. By means of the channel estimate, a strength estimate is formed for each received signal, the estimate being used to arrange the received signals according to their strength. When the signal strengths are known, it is possible to decrease the effect of the interference signals on the signal to be detected. In a diversity receiver, a correlation result can be formed of the channel estimates of the signals of each subset, excluding the signal to be detected, the result being used in interference elimination.
